Materials
- Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
- Medium weight (size 4) yarn, 2 strands held together throughout
- Tapestry needle
- 1 1/4″ button

Pattern Notes
- Hold 2 strands of yarn together throughout the entire pattern.
- The beginning ch 1 and ch 2 do not count as stitches.
- The criss-cross section is worked by crossing 2 double crochet stitches over one another.
- Adjust the length of the headband if needed before beginning the decrease section.
Measurement
The finished headband measures 4” in width and fits a standard adult.
Pattern
With 2 strands of yarn held together, ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hk and in each ch across, turn. (4)
Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in the first st, sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the last st, turn. (6)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (6)
Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in the first st, sc in the next 4 sts, 2 sc in the last st, turn. (8)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (8)

Criss-Cross Section
Row 8: Ch 2, sk the first st, *dc in the next st, dc back in the skipped stitch, sk the next st,* repeat from * to end, turn. (10)
Repeat Row 8 until the piece measures approximately 18″ from the beginning edge.
Decreasing
Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 6 sts, sc2tog, turn. (8)
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (8)
Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn. (6)
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (6)

Button Loop and Edging
Ch 5 to create the button loop. Bring the chain across the short end of the headband and sc into the opposite corner to secure the loop.
Continue working sc evenly around the outside edge of the entire headband. Work 2 sc in each corner at the opposite end to help the edging lay flat.
When you reach the ch-5 button loop, work 5 sc around the ch-5 loop.
Join with a sl st to the first sc and fasten off.
Weave in all ends.
Using a tapestry needle and yarn, securely sew the 1 1/4″ button to the opposite end of the headband.
Weave in remaining ends.
