Easy Crochet Baby Romper

Create this gorgeous easy crochet baby romper with this easy to follow pattern!

So adorable and works up quickly.

This pattern uses 100% medium weight cotton (4) and includes 4 sizes depending on which crochet hook you use.

This pattern features easy to follow instructions with accompanying photos. So cute, you will want to make one in every color!

Materials:

  • Medium weight cotton yarn (4). I used “I Love This Cotton”, 3 oz (1 skein) for 0-3 month size, about 3.5-4 oz. for other sizes. Lion Brand 24-7 cotton yarn would also be a nice yarn choice. Make sure it’s a soft cotton. 

  • F hook, 3.75 mm (for 0-3 month side), G hook, 4.25 mm (for 3-6 month size), H hook (5.00 mm (for 6-9 month size), I hook, 5.5 mm (for 9-12 month size)

 

  • Blunt needle for weaving in ends
  • 5 small buttons

Gauge:

12 rows and 16 sts = 4″

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

st(s)- stitch(es)

hdc- half double crochet

hdc2tog- half double crochet 2 together

sl st- slip stitch

 

Body:

NOTE:

  • You will be working in the round for the body only, use stitch marker to keep track of rows)
  • If you are making a striped onesie, alternate colors every row. If you need help changing colors check out my “6 awesome ways to change colors in crochet” post.

Ch 56, sl st in first ch to join (careful not to twist)

Row 1: Hdc in each ch around (56).

Rows 2-20: Hdc in each st around (56).  Sl st on last st of last row and fasten off.

Front and back top:

Count 2 sts over from the top front side (pick whichever end and side you would like) and pick up a st in the 3rd st. Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 20 sts, hdc2tog, turn (22).

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 18 sts, hdc2tog, turn (20).

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 16 sts, hdc2tog, turn (18).

Rows 3-4: Ch 2, hdc in each st across (18). Fasten off on last row.

Front bottom:

Count 4 sts over from the bottom front side and pick up a st in the 5th st. Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 16 sts, hdc2tog, turn (18).

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 14 sts, hdc2tog, turn (16).

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 12 sts, hdc2tog, turn (14).

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 10 sts, hdc2tog, turn (12).

Row 4: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 8 sts, hdc2tog, turn (10).

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn (10). Fasten off on last row.

Back bottom:

Count 2 sts over from the back front side and pick up a st in the 3rd st. Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 20 sts, hdc2tog, turn (22).

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 18 sts, hdc2tog, turn (20).

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 16 sts, hdc2tog, turn (18).

Row 3: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 14 sts, hdc2tog, turn (16).

Row 4: Ch2, hdc2tog, hdc next 12 sts, hdc2tog, turn (14).

Row 5: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 10 sts, hdc2tog, turn (12).

Row 6: Ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc next 8 sts, hdc2tog, turn (10).

Row 7: Ch 2, hdc in first st, ch 2, *skip next 2 sts, hdc in next st,* repeat from * across, ending with a hdc in last st. Fasten off.

Straps:

Pick up a st on the back top end and ch 2 (counts as hdc). Hdc next 3 sts, turn (4).

Rows 1-8: Ch 2, hdc in each st across, turn. 

Row 9: Ch 4, sl st in end st, ch 1, turn, hdc 4 sts into the loop you just made, sl st in end and fasten off. 

Repeat other strap on other side of the top back. 

Finishing:

Weave in all ends.

Top:

Pick up a st anywhere along the top and ch 2 (I prefer the side under the arm) and hdc around with 2 hdc in each corner. Sl st to join and fasten off. 

Bottom: 

Pick up a st anywhere along the bottom and ch 2 (I prefer the right side) and hdc around with 2 hdc in each corner and 2 hdc in each button hole you made in row 7 of the bottom. Sl st to join and fasten off. 

Attach buttons.

      Yes but I would use a larger hook size as the yarn is thinner.

    Love the pattern but also I am losing my mind over the blue and yellow yarn in some of the pictures. I’ve seen it before and love it, but cannot find the brand any where. Could you give me the name of it, please?
