Finish your crochet pieces with this cute crochet crab appliqué!

Very quick and easy to work up, written in 2 versions.

Measures approx. 5″ wide and 2.5″ tall (Version 1) and 5″ wide by 2 1/4″ tall (version 2).

Materials:

  • G hook, 5.00 mm
  • 100% cotton medium weight (4) yarn. I used “I Love This Cotton” in “60 Red”, small amount. Lily’s Sugar N’ Cream cotton yarn in red also looks great: 

  • Blunt needle to weave in ends
  • Black threading floss
  • Sewing needle

 

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

st(s)- stitch(es)

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

 

Crab Appliqué Version 1:

Magic circle, ch 2

Row 1: Hdc 14 in circle, sl st to join (14).

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to join (28).

  • Ch 4, sl st in same st (forms first eye), sl st next 5 sts, ch 4, sl st in same st (for other eye).
  • Sl st next 2 sts, ch 7. Sc in first st, hdc in next, dc in next 2 sts, sc last 2 sts.
  • Sl st next 2 sts, ch 6. Sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 2 sts.
  • Ch 6, sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 2 sts.
  • Ch 5, sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 6 sts.
  • Ch 5, sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 2 sts.
  • Ch 6, sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 2 sts.
  • Ch 6, sc in each ch back down. Sl st next 2 sts.
  • Ch 7, sc in first st, hdc in next, dc in next 2 sts, sc last 2 sts. Sl st in last 2 sts. Fasten off and weave in end or leave long tail to sew on.

Finishing:

With black threading floss and sewing needle, sew on eyes and fasten off. Sew on appliqué.

 

 

Crab Appliqué Version 2:

Magic circle, ch 2

Row 1: Hdc 12 in circle, sl st to join (12).

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around (24).

  • Ch 4, sl st in same st (forms first eye), sl st next 5 sts, ch 4, sl st in same st (for other eye).
  • Sl st next 2 sts, ch 7. Sc in first st, hdc in next, dc in next 2 sts, sc last 2 sts.
  • Sl st next 14 sts.
  • Ch 7, sc in first st, hdc in next, dc in next 2 sts, sc last 2 sts. Sl st in last 2 sts. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on. 

Finishing:

With black threading floss and sewing needle, sew on eyes and fasten off. Sew on appliqué.
