Materials:
- I hook, 5.5 mm
- Size 3 cotton yarn (2 strands held together), I used Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton in 3 colors, about 6 oz needed.
- Tapestry needle
- 1″ keychain rings (2 total)/1″ D rings (2 total)- optional
Note:
- You will work the bag with 2 strands together.
- You can use a larger weight yarn, be sure to check your gauge.
- The bag is worked from the bottom up. The lining, side rings and clasp are optional.
Gauge:
12 sts x 14 rows of pattern = 4″ square
Abbreviations:
st(s)- stitch(es)
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
BLO- back loop only
sl st- slip stitch
Pattern:
With Color 1, ch 31
Round 1:
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 27 ch (28 sc).
Work 5 sc in last ch.
Continue on opposite side of foundation chain, sc in next 28 ch, work 5 sc in last ch.
Sl st to first sc to join. (66 sts)
Round 2:
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Round 3:
Ch 1, sc in back loop only (BLO) of each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 4–9:
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 10–12:
Switch to Color 2.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 13–15:
Switch to Color 3.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 16–18:
Switch to Color 2.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 19–21:
Switch to Color 3.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 22–24:
Switch to Color 2.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 25–27:
Switch to Color 3.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 28–30:
Switch to Color 2.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Rounds 31–37:
Switch to Color 1.
Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join. (66 sts)
Round 38:
Switch to Color 2.
Sl st in each st around, sl st to first sl st to join. Fasten off. (66 sts)
Side rings:
With tapestry needle and yarn, sew the rings to each side of the bag.
Strap:
Chain 5 sts around the ring (or ch 5 if you are not using rings).
Row 1: Sc into the 2nd ch from the hk and each ch, turn (4).
Rows 2-84: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
The strap will measure approx. 26″.
Fasten off if you are not using rings.
If using rings, sc through each st around the ring.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
If not using rings, sew strap on in inside of your bag.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
