This cozy pattern features textured post stitches and clearly written instructions in US terms to guide you from the first stitch to the last stitch with confidence.
This free pattern is written with an easy-to-follow pattern repeat, making it simple to memorize once you get started.
Designed using worsted weight yarns (size 4) and size I, 5.5 mm hook size, this headband works up quickly and includes sizing for toddler size, child size and adult.
Whether you’re just learning special stitches or already love working with cable patterns, this project is great for personal use and a relaxing fun project!
The final headband measures approx. 4″ wide.

Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
Medium weight yarn (size 4)
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations
ch – chain
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
fpdc – front post double crochet
bpdc – back post double crochet
st(s) – stitch(es)
sk – skip
hk – hook
Pattern
Foundation:
Ch 9
Row 1
Dc in the 3rd ch from the hk and in the next 2 chs,
2 dc in next ch, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch,
dc in last 3 chs, turn.
(8 sts + ch-2 space)
Row 2
Ch 2, dc in first st, fpdc in next st, dc in next st,
ch 5, sc between the two dc clusters from Row 1, sc in each of the 5 chs, sk next 2 sts
2 dc in the ch-2 space from Row 1,
ch 5, sc between the same two dc clusters again, sc in each of the 5 chs, sk next 2 sts,
dc in next st, fpdc in next st, dc in last st, turn.
(8 sts)
Row 3
Ch 2, dc in first st, bpdc in next st,
dc in next 4 sts,
bpdc in next st, dc in last st, turn.
(8 sts)
Row 4
Ch 2, dc in first st, fpdc in next st, dc in next st,
ch 5, sc between the two dc clusters two rows below, sc in each of the 5 chs,
dc in the next 2 sts,
ch 5, sc between the same two dc clusters again (two rows below), sc in each of the 5 chs,
dc in next st, fpdc in next st, dc in last st, turn.

Repeat
Repeat Rows 3 and 4, ending with row 4 until piece measures:
Toddler: 17 inches
Child: 18 inches
Adult: 19 inches
Finishing
Sc evenly around the entire headband, working 2 sc in each corner.
Ch 1, bring ends together with right sides facing out.
Sl st through the front loop of one side and the back loop of the other across to seam.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
