Bat Appliqué Pattern

Materials:
Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
Medium weight (Size 4) yarn in black
Tapestry needle
Optional: googly eyes and glue
Abbreviations:
ch – chain
hk – hook
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
Finished Size:
Approx. 5 in (13 cm) wide (wing to wing) × 3.5 in (9 cm) tall.
Instructions
Body:
Ch 20
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hk and in each ch across, turn. (18 hdc)
Rows 2–5: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), hdc in each st across, turn. (18 hdc)
Fasten off.
Head:
Count 6 sts over from one edge, join yarn with a sl st, ch 1.
Row 1: Sc in same st and next 5 sts, turn. (6 sc)
Rows 2–5: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. (6 sc)
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.
Assembly:
Fold the side sections of the rectangle upward to form the wings.
Stitch wings in place using tapestry needle and yarn tail.
Weave in all ends.
Optional: Glue on googly eyes.
