Materials:
- Size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook
- Medium weight (size 4) cotton yarn, I used Lily Sugar’n Cream in 4 colors (1 2 oz. skein each)
- Tapestry needle
- 1″ keychain rings (2)
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
Measurements:
9.5″ x 9.5″ with a 7.5″ strap drop.
The heart measures 6″ wide by 5.5″ tall.
Gauge:
10 sts x 8 rows = 4″ square
Note:
The bag and wallet is made with 2 strands held together.
Body of Bag:
With light pink yarn ch 21
Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each ch down until the end ch. Sc 5 in the end ch. Sc back down the other side of the foundation ch until the last st. Sc 5 in the last st, sl st in first st to join (28).
Rounds 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join (28).
Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join (28).
Round 5: Switch to hot pink yarn, ch 2, hdc in the 3rd loop only in each st around, sl st to join (28).
Rounds 6-7: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join (28).
Rounds 8-10: Switch to white yarn, repeat rounds 5-7.
Rounds 11-13: Switch to red yarn, repeat rounds 5-7.
Rounds 14-16: Switch to light pink yarn, repeat rounds 5-7.
Rounds 17-19: Switch to hot pink yarn, repeat rounds 5-7.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Strap Rings:
Hold your bag up and find the two end stitches on either side of the top opening of the bag.
Place a stitch marker here.
Cut a long piece of yarn and with your tapestry needle, sew a keychain ring to the side of the bag.
Work the needle through the ring and stitch about 5-6 times then weave in and out on the inside of the bag to secure.
Fasten off.
Repeat with the other side.
Strap:
With 2 strands held together, ch 1 over the keychain and sc 4, ch 1.
Row 1: Sc in each st across, turn (4).
Rows 2-43: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
With tapestry needle, sew the end to the other keychain side of the bag.
Weave in ends.
Note: You can make the strap longer for a crossbody bag by adding more rows.
Heart Pattern:
Ch 2
Row 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from the hk, turn (2).
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 sc in each st, turn (4).
Row 3: Ch 2, 2 sc, sc next 2 sts, 2 sc, turn (6).
Row 4: Ch 2, 2 sc, sc next 4 sts, 2 sc, turn (8).
Row 5: Ch 2, 2 sc, sc next 6 sts, 2 sc, turn (10).
Row 6: Ch 2, 2 sc, sc next 8 sts, 2 sc, turn (12).
Rows 7-8: Ch 2, sc in each st across, turn (12).
Row 9: Ch 2, sc next 6 sts, turn (6). (forms one side of the top of the heart)
Row 10: Ch 2, sc next 6 sts, turn (6).
Row 11: Ch 2, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn (4).
Row 12: Ch 2, sc next 4 sts, turn (4).
Row 13: Ch 2, sc2tog, twice (2).
Fasten off.
Pick up a st on the next st from row 9 and ch 2.
Repeat rows 9-13 to form the other top of the heart.
Do not fasten off. Evenly sc around the heart with 2 sc on the bottom point of the heart. Sl st to join.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Cut a long piece of yarn and with your tapestry needle, sew the heart onto the bag leaving the top of the heart open (pocket).
Fasten off and weave in ends on the inside of the bag.
