Materials:
- I hook, 5.5 mm
- Size 3 cotton yarn (2 strands held together), I used Yarn Bee Sugarwheel Cotton in “Just Turquoise” and White. About 6-7 oz. needed, I used 2 skeins of each to hold the 2 strands together easily.
- Tapestry needle, sewing needle
- Embroidery floss
- 15 mm magnetic snaps (optional)
- 1″ keychain rings (2 total)/1″ D rings (2 total)- optional
- Fabric quarter (18″ X 21″), 100% cotton – optional
Note:
- You will work the bag with 2 strands together, this will make for a thicker sturdier bag
- You can use a larger weight yarn or acrylic yarn, be sure to check your gauge.
- The bag is worked from the bottom up. The lining, side rings and clasp are optional.
- When working with the white color, carry the yarn with you and work over it with the blue color when you are not using it. This is especially helpful during the bobble section.

Fasten off, weave in all ends.
Side rings:
With tapestry needle and yarn, sew the rings to each side of the bag.
Strap:
Chain 5 sts around the ring (or ch 5 if you are not using rings).
Row 1: Sc into the 2nd ch from the hk and each ch, turn (4).
Rows 2-84: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
The strap will measure approx. 26″.
Fasten off if you are no using rings.
If using rings, sc through each st around the ring.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Attach the strap to the inside of the bag (if not using rings) and fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Tassel:
Use a piece of cardboard cut about 4″ or something similar. I used a coaster that measures about 4″ and it worked great.
Hold a strand each of the blue color and white color together and wrap around the cardboard/coaster 20 times. Be sure it’s not too tight so you can easily snip the bottom with scissors.
Cut a long piece of either color yarn and tie through the middle top of your strands and knot at the top to secure.
Cut through the bottom ends of the tassel.
With blue yarn, cut a long strand and wrap it around 6 times an inch below the top and knot it securely. Trim ends and trim the ends of the tassel so the tassel measures approx. 3 1/4″ or desired length.
Attach to bag:
Cut 2 strands together of the white color approx. 13″. Fold in half and put the middle part through the ring or top st of the side of the bag if you’re not using rings. Yarn over and pull all strands through.
Make a knot about an inch down.
With tapestry needle, take 2 strands and pull them through the middle top of the tassel. Knot at the top with the other 2 strands.
Use your tapestry needle to pull all strands down through the middle.
Trim excess strands.
Lining:
Fold your fabric quarter in half with the outside facing out, iron flat.
Cut your fabric so it is a little larger than the width of the bag, about 12.5″.
With embroidery floss, sew up the sides, leaving about an inch opening on either side at the top.
Fasten off, trim ends.
Fold over the top of the lining about an inch and iron flat.
Fold over the very top in half again so you have a clean edge and iron flat.
Claps (optional):
Sew the clasps (with sewing needle and floss) onto the lining on both sides and fasten off on the back of the lining.
Add lining to bag:
Put the lining in the bag making sure each corner is pushed into the corner of the bag.
With your sewing needle and embroidery floss, sew in and out around the top of the bag to attach the lining.
