Materials:
- Size G, 4.25 mm crochet hook
- Medium weight (size 4) yarn
- Tapestry needle
- 1″-1 1/4″ button
- Sewing thread/floss
- Sewing needle
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
dc- double crochet
tr- treble crochet
sk- skip
Gauge:
15 sc X 18 rows = 4 x 4″ square
Final Measurement:
Measures approx. 4″ wide.
Pattern:
Ch 5.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each st across, turn (4).
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 sc in first, sc next 3, 2 sc in last, turn (6).
Row 3: Ch 2, sc in each st across, turn (6).
Row 4: Ch 2, 2 sc in first, sc next 5, 2 sc in last, turn (8).
Row 5: Ch 2, sc in each st across, turn (8).
Row 6: Ch 2, 2 sc in first, sc next 7, 2 sc in last, turn (10).
Row 7: Ch 2, sc in each st across, turn (10).
Row 8: Ch 2, 2 sc in first, sc next 5, 2 sc in last, turn (12).
Row 9: Ch 2, sc in each st across, turn (12).
Row 10: Ch 2, 2 sc in first, sc next 7, 2 sc in last, turn (14).
Row 11: Ch 3, *tr in next 2 sts, ch 2, sk next 2 sts,* repeat from * to end, turn (14).
Row 12: Ch 2, *dc next 2 sts, dc ch 2 space,* repeat from * to end, turn (14).
Repeat rows 11 and 12 until your piece measures the corresponding size:
Toddler: 15 inches (total length 17″)
Child: 16 inches (total length 18″)
Teen: 17 inches (total length 19″)
Adult: 18 inches (total length 20″)
Decreasing:
Next row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 10 sts, sc2tog, turn (12).
Next row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (10).
Next row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 6 sts, sc2tog, turn (8).
Next row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (6).
Next row: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn (4).
Next row: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
Button hole:
Ch 5, sl st on the other side of the end and ch 1, turn, sc 5 in the ch 5 space.
Sl st in end st and fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Attach button to headband with a sewing needle and thread or floss.
