Materials:

  • Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Medium weight yarn (size 4), I used Yarn Bee Yarn ID in “Pearl River” (about 200 yards needed) and Yarn Bee Andes Alpaca in “City Beat” for the contrasting color
  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

st(s)- stitch(es)

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

Gauge:

12 sts x 6 rows = 4″ square

Special Stitches:

Horizontal single crochet:

Start at the end on the side of the neck warmer and single crochet between each st horizontally every 3 rows.
 
Single crochet across between each post.
 

Third Loop Only:

Work your stitch in the loop directly behind the back loop.

Pattern:

Ch 92

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from the hk and each ch to end, turn (90).
 
Rows 2-12: Ch 2, dc in each st to end, turn (90).
 
Fasten off, weave in ends.
 
The piece should measure approx. 29″ long and 8.5″ wide.
 

Color contrasting rows:

Start at the end of the 3rd row on the side of the neck warmer and single crochet between each st horizontally.
 
Single crochet across between each post, every 3 rows. 
 
Fasten off on each row and weave in ends.
 
Optional:
 
You can also do this technique every other row or every row to add more stripes to your neck warmer.

Construction:

Lay the neck warmer flat with the wrong side facing you.
 
Fold over one side.
 
 
Fold over the other side on top so the pieces overlap and make a V at the front.
 

Edging:

With color contrasting yarn pick up a st anywhere along the neck warmer and ch 1.
 
Sc evenly (about 90 sts) around the neck warmer and through both sts where they overlap. Sl st in first st.
 
Round 1: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join (90).
 
Round 2: Ch 2, sc in the third loop only (st right behind the back loop) in each st around, sl st to join (90).
 
Fasten off, weave in ends.
