Hi, thanks for the free patterns. I was super excited to try them out to match a blanket I’ve recently made, but am having a little bit of trouble with the hat – I haven’t gotten to the booties yet. I’ve only been crocheting for a year or so, and I’m not sure where I’ve gone wrong. I’m assuming I added a stitch somewhere it shouldn’t be. After starting the fpdc the hat flares out like a brim? Could you please give some advice? Thanks.

The fpdc will go around the dc from the previous row, then you dc the next stitch then fpdc again…so you will be fpdc every other stitch. In the next row you will fpdc around the previous fpdc and dc in between so again only fpdc in every other stitch. It should lay flat and not flare out. Just make sure you are fpdc around every other stitch and dc in between and you should be good to go! Let me know if you have any other questions!

Works up so nicely! Beautiful. How can you adjust for different ages, like you did for the matching booties? If so can you instruct? Thanks.

Thank you! You can change your hook size to make it a little larger or smaller or add increasing rows (instead of dc around row 4, 2 dc in first, dc next 3 sts, repeat around) to make it larger. 4 increasing rows should be around a child’s size and 5 increasing rows (2 dc in first, dc next 4 sts, repeat around) should be around an adult size. Then finish the hat as usual. You will need to add some more rows of dc to add some length for the larger sizes. Hope this helps!
