Crochet Fringe Triangle Scarf

Create this gorgeous crochet fringe triangle scarf with button and fringe detail! Easy to follow directions and works up fast! A great project to use large buttons or add sparkle/sequin yarn.

Warm and comfortable, these are a great alternative to a long bulky scarf. Slips easily over your head. Fun to make in a variety of colors.

Materials:

– Medium worsted weight yarn (I used 2 strands together. Great for leftover yarn or using a medium worsted weight yarn and a thinner yarn with sequins/sparkle)
– Size I hook
– Blunt needle
– 3 large buttons (approx. 1 1/4”)

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

hk- hook
dc- double crochet
st(s)- stitch(es)

To crochet scarf vertically:

Ch 24 (with both strands together)
Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from the hk, dc in next st, *ch 1, skip next st, dc in next 3 sts*, repeat from * across.
Row 2. Ch 2, skip first st, dc in next 2 sts, *ch 1, skip next st, dc in next 3 sts,* repeat from * across.
Repeat row 2 until piece measures 35”.

To crochet scarf horizontally:

Ch 104 (with both strands together)
Repeat pattern the same as for the vertical scarf until piece measures 8” or 12 rows.
Fold collar and wrap around your neck.

** Position the scarf so one side is shorter than the other then lay the longer side over the shorter side. It should overlap to form a triangular pointed shape in the front. I always try it on in a mirror first to make sure the fit is just what I like before sewing. Once you have it positioned where you like, sew through both layers at 3 points: on each corner where the top part of the scarf overlaps and on the other side.

** Now add the buttons on the part of the scarf underneath the overlap. Start the first button at the neckline then the next two about an inch apart. Position them so they line up with the open holes you created so the top layer will easily fit over the button.

Fringe:

Cut strands of yarn 10″ in length. Fold in half. With 2 strands together pull through edge of scarf, wrap the hook around the yarn and pull the yarn through. Put fringe along the front V part of the scarf or all the way around. Whatever you prefer. Trim fringe to desired length.

You’re done! Enjoy!
