These cute crochet pumpkins are the perfect little project for fall!
They’re quick to make, easy to customize with your favorite colors, and look adorable tucked into a basket, displayed on a shelf, or added to your fall table decor.
This easy crochet pumpkin pattern includes two sizes, a little pumpkin and a larger version, so you can make a whole set to mix and match.
The pumpkins are worked in half double crochet with a simple third loop technique that creates pretty raised ridges and gives them lots of texture.
Once your pumpkin is stuffed, a few simple stitches around the outside create the classic pumpkin shape.
Add a crochet stem, cinnamon stick, twig, or even a little bow to finish it off and make each one your own.
Grab your favorite worsted weight yarn and a size H crochet hook, and let’s make some cozy crochet pumpkins for fall!

Materials
- Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
- Medium (size 4) worsted weight yarn
- Tapestry needle
- Stuffing
- Cinnamon sticks-cut sticks in half if too long to about 2-3″
- Hot glue gun
Abbreviations
- ch – chain
- hdc – half double crochet
- hdc2tog – half double crochet 2 stitches together
- mc – magic circle
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
Special Stitch
Third Loop Only: After working a round of hdc, locate the horizontal loop behind the two top loops of the stitch. Insert your hook into this third loop and complete the hdc as usual. Working in the third loop pushes the top two loops forward, creating the raised ridges around the pumpkin.
Pattern Notes
- Beginning ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
- Join each round with a sl st to the first hdc of the round.
- Stitch counts are listed at the end of each round in parentheses.

Round 1: Ch 2, work 2 hdc in each st around. Sl st to join. (20 sts)
Round 2: Ch 2, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (30 sts)
Rounds 3-7: Ch 2, hdc in the third loop only of each st around. Sl st to join. (30 sts)
Round 8: Ch 2, working in the third loop only, *hdc2tog, hdc in next st; repeat from * around. Sl st to join. (20 sts)
Round 9: Ch 2, hdc2tog around. Sl st to join. (10 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Stuff the pumpkin firmly with stuffing.
Thread the long tail onto a tapestry needle. Sew through the front loop only of each stitch around the opening. Pull tightly to close.
To create the pumpkin sections, insert the needle through the center of the top and bring it out through the center of the bottom. Bring the yarn around the outside of the pumpkin and insert the needle through the top center again, bringing it back through the bottom.
Repeat this process around the pumpkin, evenly spacing the yarn to create 6 sections. Pull the yarn snugly after each section to define the vertical ridges, being careful not to pull so tightly that the pumpkin becomes distorted.
Secure the yarn and weave in the end.

Stem
Using a hot glue gun, place a small dab of hot glue in the center of the pumpkin.
Press the cinnamon stick stem firmly into the glue and hold it in place for a few seconds until secure.
Before gluing, make sure the nicest-looking end of the cinnamon stick is facing up.
