Crochet Zig Zag Canvas Tote Bag Pattern

Materials:
- 13.5 x 13.5 canvas tote bag. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby. Also available on Amazon.
- Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
- Size 4 cotton yarn, I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love this cotton in various colors
- Tapestry needle
- Sewing thread and sewing needle, use strong thread such as threading floss or crochet thread
Yarn Estimate:
Approximately 300–350 yards total
- Color 1: 75–100 yards
- Color 2: 55–65 yards
- Color 3: 55–65 yards
- Color 4: 55–65 yards
Abbreviations:
- ch – chain
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- sc – single crochet
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- BLO – back loop only
- sk – skip
Notes:
- Base is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join rounds.
- Body is worked in joined rounds.
- Ch 2 at the beginning of each round counts as a dc.
- Change colors as indicated throughout the pattern.
Base (Color 1 – Oval):
Worked in continuous rounds. Do not join. Place a stitch marker in first st.
With color 1, ch 33
Round 1:
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 30 sts, 3 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side of foundation chain: sc in next 30 sts, 3 sc in last ch. (66 sts)
Round 2:
2 sc in first st, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in next st 3 times, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in next st 3 times. (72 sts)
Round 3:
Sc in next 31 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 31 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times. (78 sts)
Round 4:
Sc in each st around. (78 sts)
Round 5:
Sc in BLO in each st around. (78 sts)
Body:
Round 6:
Switch to color 2, ch 2, dc in same st, sk next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * around, sl st to join. (39 clusters)
Round 7:
Switch to color 3, sl st in between the 2 dc from previous round, ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in between the 2 dc from previous round in each dc cluster around, sl st to join. (39 clusters)
Round 8:
Switch to color 4, sl st in between the 2 dc from previous round, ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in between the 2 dc from previous round in each dc cluster around, sl st to join. (39 clusters)
Round 9:
Switch to color 1, sl st in between the 2 dc from previous round, ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in between the 2 dc from previous round in each dc cluster around, sl st to join. (39 clusters)
Rounds 10–13:
Repeat Rounds 6–9.
Rounds 14–17:
Repeat Rounds 6–9.
Rounds 18–21:
Repeat Rounds 6–9.
Rounds 22–25:
Repeat Rounds 6–9.
Rounds 26–29:
Repeat Rounds 6–9.
Round 30:
Switch to color 2, sl st in between the 2 dc from previous round, ch 2, dc in same st, 2 dc in between the 2 dc from previous round in each dc cluster around, sl st to join. (39 clusters)
Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Attach to Bag:
Place the canvas tote inside the crochet bag.
Use sewing pins to secure the crochet bag around the canvas bag.
With sewing needle and thread, sew the top of the canvas tote to the crochet bag.
Work in a horizontal stitch along the top of the canvas bag then sew to the inside stitch of the crocheted bag.
Continue in this way around the top of the bag for a neat stitch (you will hardly see it).
Fasten off, weave in ends.
