Crochet Daisy Flower Market Canvas Bag Easy Free Pattern

If you’re looking for a fun and colorful crochet project, this Daisy Flower Bag is the perfect choice.

Made from simple flower granny squares and attached to a sturdy canvas tote, this bag combines the beauty of crochet with the durability needed for everyday use.

The flowers can be customized with any color combination you like, making it easy to create a bag that matches your personal style.

Whether you choose bright summer shades, soft pastels, or classic neutrals, each bag will be completely unique.

The crochet cover slips over a canvas tote, giving the bag extra structure and strength while still showcasing the handmade charm of the daisy squares.

It’s a great project for confident beginners and experienced crocheters alike, and the finished bag is perfect for farmers markets, beach days, shopping trips, or everyday use.

Materials:

  • Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Medium weight (size 4) cotton, I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton in various colors (7 colors total). Use as many colors as you would like for various flower color combinations.
  • Tapestry needle
  • 13.5″ x 13.5″ canvas tote bag (available at Hobby Lobby or online)
  • Sewing needle
  • Strong sewing thread, embroidery floss, or crochet thread
  • Sewing pins

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • st(s) – stitch(es)
  • sc – single crochet
  • dc – double crochet
  • tr – treble crochet
  • sl st – slip stitch
  • tr2tog – treble crochet 2 stitches together
  • tr3tog – treble crochet 3 stitches together
  • sp – space
  • mc – magic circle

Notes:

  • Bag is made by crocheting 18 flower granny squares and joining them together to form two panels.
  • Use any color combination you like for the flowers and squares. The sample bags use 7 colors total, but fewer or more colors may be used.
  • Squares are joined with the wrong sides together by sewing through the outer loops only for an almost invisible seam.
  • The base is worked separately in continuous rounds. Do not join rounds. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch of each round.
  • The crochet bag is sewn around a 13.5″ x 13.5″ canvas tote bag to provide structure, durability, and support.
  • The canvas tote remains inside the finished crochet bag and acts as a built-in liner.
  • Weave in ends as work progresses for easier finishing.
  • Finished size may vary slightly depending on yarn, hook size, and tension.

Round 2 (Petals):

In next st, work tr3tog, ch 2, repeat around.

Sl st to top of beginning ch-4 to join. (12 petals)
Fasten off.

Ch 33

Round 1:
Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 30 sts, 3 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side of foundation chain: sc in next 30 sts, 3 sc in last ch. (66 sts)

Round 2:
2 sc in first st, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in next st 3 times, sc in next 30 sts, 2 sc in next st 3 times. (72 sts)

Round 3:
Sc in next 31 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next 31 sts, (2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times. (78 sts)

Round 4:
Sc in each st around. (78 sts)

Fasten off, weave in end.

Attaching squares and base:

Attach your squares together using any method of your choice. I sewed my pieces together by laying the wrong sides of my squares together and with a tapestry needle and long cut piece of yarn I sewed in and out through the external loops only. This creates an invisible join.

Continue to join all squares so you have 9 connected squares for one panel of the bag and 9 connected squares for the other. Weave in all ends.

Edging:

With beige yarn pick up  a st in the corner of one of the panels and ch 1. Sc evenly around the panel, sl st to join and fasten off.

Repeat with other panel.

Now lay the panels so the wrong sides are facing out. Sew down the side of the bag with your tapestry needle and long piece of yarn, connecting the bag in the same way as the squares. Weave in and out through the external loops only. Fasten off at the other end of the side and fasten off.

Repeat on the other side.

Weave in ends.

Connect the base:

Sew the base of the bag through both loops around. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Turn bag right side out.

Around the top (beige yarn):

Pick up a st on the top side of the bag and ch 1.

Sc in each st around the top of the bag for a total of 5 rounds.

Sl st in last st and fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Attaching bag to canvas tote:

Place the canvas tote inside the crochet bag.

Use sewing pins to secure the crochet bag around the canvas bag.

With sewing needle and thread, sew the top of the canvas tote to the crochet bag.

Work in a horizontal stitch along the top of the canvas bag then sew to the inside stitch of the crocheted bag.

Continue in this way around the top of the bag for a neat stitch (you will hardly see it).

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Pin it for later!
