If you’re looking for a fun way to dress up a plain canvas tote bag, this crochet tote cover is the perfect project.
Made with colorful granny stitch stripes, it transforms an inexpensive canvas bag into a unique handmade accessory that’s both practical and stylish.
The crochet cover works up quickly using basic stitches and can be customized with your favorite color combinations.
Since the crochet piece is sewn directly onto a sturdy canvas tote, you get the beauty of crochet with the durability of a structured bag.
Whether you’re headed to the farmer’s market, the beach, the library, or just running errands, this colorful tote is a great way to add a handmade touch to your everyday style.
I used a 13.5″ x 13.5″ canvas tote from Hobby Lobby, but similar bags can also be found online.
Happy crocheting!

Attach to Bag
Place the canvas tote inside the crochet bag.
Use sewing pins to secure the crochet bag around the canvas bag.
With sewing needle and thread, sew the top of the canvas tote to the crochet bag.
Work in a horizontal stitch along the top of the canvas bag then sew to the inside stitch of the crocheted bag.
Continue in this way around the top of the bag for a neat stitch (you will hardly see it).
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Pin it for later!
