Materials:
Size H (5.00 mm) crochet hook
Medium weight (size 4) yarn – I used Big Twist in “Twilight Blue.” Approx. 300 yards (165 g / 6 oz), about 2 skeins
Tapestry needle
Gauge:
12 sts x 10 rows = 4″ square in hdc sl st pattern
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
hk – hook
hdc – half double crochet
hdc sl st – half double crochet slip stitch
BLO – back loop only
sl st – slip stitch
Finished Size:
Approximately 5″ wide x 60″ long
(Width and length can easily be adjusted by adding or reducing starting chains or repeating additional rows.)
Special Stitch:
Half Double Crochet Slip Stitch (hdc sl st):
Yarn over, insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook).
Do not yarn over again — instead, pull the first loop directly through the other two loops on your hook.
Pattern:
Ch 200 or chains corresponding to the size chart.
Row 1: Hdc sl st in 3rd ch from hk and in each ch across, turn. (198 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc sl st in BLO of each st across, turn. (198 sts)
Repeat Row 2 for 18 rows or until your piece measures the desired width of your scarf.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
