Crochet Ribbed Beanie Pattern

Materials:
- Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
- Medium weight (size 4) yarn (see yarn estimates below)
- Tapestry needle
- Optional: faux fur pom and 1″ button
Abbreviations (US Terms):
ch = chain
st(s) = stitch(es)
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
fpdc = front post double crochet
dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
BLO = back loop only
sl st = slip stitch
hk = hook
Gauge:
13 double crochet stitches x 9 rounds = 4″ x 4″
Yarn Estimates (approximate):
Newborn: 75 yards
Baby: 90 yards
Toddler: 110 yards
Child: 130 yards
Teen/Adult: 150 yards
Large Adult: 170 yards
Brim Instructions:
Start by chaining the number of stitches based on the desired size:
Adult/Teen – Chain 21
Child – Chain 19
Toddler – Chain 17
Baby – Chain 15
Newborn – Chain 13
For all sizes:
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hk and each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in the back loop only (BLO) of each st across.
Repeat Row 2 until your band reaches the following row count:
- Large adult- 70 rows
Adult/Teen – 63 rows
Child – 56 rows
Toddler – 49 rows
Baby – 42 rows
Newborn – 35 rows
Fold brim in half. Sl sl the back loop on one side and the front loop of the other side together in each st across. Turn brim inside out (to hide the seam) and continue with the body.
Body:
Single crochet evenly around the brim to match the stitch count for your selected size:
- Large Adult- 70 sts
Adult/Teen – 63 sts
Child – 56 sts
Toddler – 49 sts
Baby – 42 sts
Newborn – 35 sts
All sizes: Ch 1, slip stitch to join. Ch 2.
Round 1: Dc in each st around. Sl st to join.
Round 2: Ch 2, fpdc in next st, dc in next st; repeat from * to * around. Sl st to join.
Round 3: Ch 2, dc in next st, fpdc in next st; repeat from * to * around. Sl st to join.
Repeat Rounds 2 & 3 as follows:
Newborn: Repeat 4 more rounds
Baby: Repeat 5 more rounds
Toddler: Repeat 5 more rounds
Child: Repeat 6 more rounds
Teen/Adult: Repeat 6 more rounds
Large Adult: Repeat 7 more rounds
Crown Shaping and Decreasing:
Next Round: Dc2tog, dc in next st; repeat around. Sl st to join.
Next Round: Dc2tog in each st around. Sl st to join.
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Using a tapestry needle, weave the tail through the front loop only of each st around the top.
Pull tight to close the crown. Sew securely on the inside.
Optional: Sew button onto the inside of the hat. Pull the elastic of the pom through the middle of the hat with your hook and pull it around the button.
