Looking for a cozy and stylish project to add to your collection of free crochet patterns?

This crochet cable hat pattern is just what you need.

With it’s timeless look and rich cable design, this beanie works up beautifully using medium weight yarn and simple double crochet stitches.

Perfect for the holiday season, this pattern is a great option for gifts, market prep, or just keeping your own head warm and stylish.

This free pattern includes six sizes: newborn, baby, toddler, child, teen/adult, and large adult.

It comes with measurements, recommended hat sizes, and yarn estimates so you can create the perfect fit.

Whether you’re making a child size or an adult size beanie with a faux fur pom pom or yarn pom pom, this design adds a beautiful twist to your crochet hat patterns.

An easy-to-follow video tutorial walks you through each part of the stitch pattern, including how to work into the front of fptr stitches to form the cable pattern. You’ll love how the body of the hat builds up toward the top of the hat, creating a soft, textured finish.

Once completed, finish off your finished hat with am optional faux fur pom or button to personalize it even more.

This cozy crochet cable hat is a great choice for advanced beginners looking to try out crochet cables without diving into complicated knit designs.

A printable pdf version of the pattern is available for personal use (for purchase), and an optional ad-free version (for purchase) is also offered if you’d like to download it or save to your Ravelry favorites.

Grab your crochet hook size H (5.00 mm), some worsted-weight yarns, and a yarn needle, and get started.

This is one of the easiest ways to make a beautiful hat with a cable twist that you’ll want to make in different styles and colors.

Estimated Yarn Requirements (Worsted Weight / Size 4 Yarn)

  • Adult/Teen: 150–180 yards (137–165 meters)

  • Child: 130–150 yards (119–137 meters)

  • Toddler: 110–130 yards (101–119 meters)

  • Baby: 90–110 yards (82–101 meters)

  • Newborn: 70–90 yards (64–82 meters)

Multiples:

This pattern works in multiples of 7.

Notes:

  • Ch 2 at the beginning of dc rows does count as a stitch.

  • Cable is worked using front post treble crochet (fptr).

  • Here’s how to do a front post treble crochet:

    1. Yarn over three times (since it’s a treble crochet).

    2. Insert your hook from the front to the back and around the post of the stitch you want to work into.

    3. Yarn over again and pull up a loop, so you now have four loops on your hook.

    4. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops (like a regular treble crochet).

    5. Yarn over and pull through the next two loops.

    6. Yarn over again and pull through the remaining two loops.
