Just add more rounds for a larger bag!

The finished  crochet flower bag bag measures 8” x 8”—ideal for carrying your essentials.

Crochet Flower Granny Crossbody Bag Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (size 4) in 7 colors
  • Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • 1-1 1/4″ button

Abbreviations:

st(s)- stitch(es)

ch- chain

hk- hook

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

sp- space

BLO- back loop only

Note:

  • Ch 2 at the beginning of each round counts as a stitch

Final Measurement:

The final bag measures 8″ x 8″.

Special Stitches:

Puff Stitch: 

Yarn over, insert your hk in the st and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert your hook in the same stitch and pull up a loop, repeat two more times (9 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull yarn through all loops. 1 puff stitch made. 

Popcorn Stitch:

Step 1: Crochet 5 double crochet (dc) stitches into the same stitch.

Step 2: Remove the hook from the loop.

Step 3: Insert the hook into the first dc of the group.

Step 4: Grab the dropped loop and pull it through the first dc.

Step 5: Tighten the stitch and continue with the pattern.

Pattern:

Round 1: With color A, make a magic ring/circle and 12 hdc in circle.

Pull to close, sl st to join, fasten off (12).

Round 2: Change to Color B and join in any stitch.
Puff into the st, *ch 2, puff in next st*, repeat from * around, sl st to join. (12 puff stitches, 12 ch-2 spaces).

Fasten off. With Color C, pick up a st in any ch-2 space.

Round 3: Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc 4 in same sp, *popcorn, ch 2, 5 dc in next sp,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (12 popcorns made, with 12 ch-2 spaces between each one).

Fasten off. With Color D, join in any ch-2 space and ch 2 (counts as a dc).

Round 4: Dc 2 in same sp, dc 3 in next two spaces, dc 3 in next sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp (corner made), dc 3 in next 2 spaces, dc 3 in next sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp (second corner made), dc 3 in next 2 spaces, dc 3 in next sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp (third corner made), dc 3 in next 2 spaces, dc 3 in first sp, ch 2, sl st to join (48 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Round 5: Switch to color E, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp, *dc in the next 12 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp,* repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in the next 12 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, sl st to join (64 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Round 6: Switch to color F, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp, *dc in the next 16 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp,* repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in the next 16 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, sl st to join (80 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Round 7: Switch to color G, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp, *dc in the next 20 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp, repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in the next 20 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, sl st to join. (96 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Round 8: Switch to color H, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp, *dc in the BLO next 24 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp, repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in the BLO in the next 24 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, sl st to join. (112 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Round 9: Switch to color I, ch 2, dc 2 in same sp, *dc in the BLO of the next 28 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, dc 3 in same sp, repeat from * 2 more times. Dc in the BLO of the next 28 sts, dc 3 in corner sp, ch 2, sl st to join. (128 dc, 4 ch-2 corner spaces).

Lining:

Lay your piece over your fabric and cut around it with about a half an inch give around it.

Fold the edges over and iron them to create a crease. Lay your work right side down and place the fabric on top, right side up.

With tapestry needle and thread, sew around the fabric, attaching it to the square.

Construction:

Fold the corners opposite each other in to meet in the middle. Fold the other corners in so all the points meet in the middle. Fold the bottom corner up. 

With a long piece of yarn (color I) and tapestry needle, sew through the back loops only.

Start in any corner and work your way across then repeat with the other side.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

Button hole:

With color I, pick up a st on the end corner of the top flap.

Sc evenly across to the end V point.

Ch 10.

Sl st in first st, ch 1, sc 12 around the ch 10, sl st in first st and continue to sc across to the other corner.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends.

Sew on button.

Strap:

With color E (or color of your choice), continue to chain the corresponding strap size:

Little kid size– 120 chains, 14 inch strap drop

Older kid size– 130 chains, 16 inch strap drop

Teen size– 140 chains, 18 inch strap drop

Adult size– 150 chains, 20 inch strap drop

Sl st in the other end of the bag, ch 1, turn, sl st in each st across the strap to the other side of the bag.

Sl st in end st and fasten off, weave in ends.
