Materials:
- Size I, 5.5. mm crochet hook
- Medium weight (size 4) cotton yarn, I used Loops & Threads Classic Cotton in “Ombre Confetti”, three 2 oz. skeins needed
- Tapestry needed
- Keychain rings (2), measure about 1″
Abbreviations:
ch-chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
sk- skip
Gauge:
13 sts x 10 rows = 4″ square
Sizing:
The final bag measures approx. 12.5” wide x 11” tall and 11” for the strap drop.
Body of Bag:
ch 41
Round 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each ch down until the end ch. Sc 5 in the end ch. Sc back down the other side of the foundation ch until the last st. Sc 5 in the last st, sl st in first st to join (88).
Rounds 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join (88).
Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join (88).
Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in the 3rd loop only in each st around, sl st to join (88).
Rounds 7-9: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join (88).
Rounds 10-13: Repeat rounds 6-9.
Rounds 14-17: Repeat rounds 6-9.
Round 18: Repeat round 6.
Rounds 19-25: Ch 2, dc in first st, ch 1, *sk next st, dc in next, ch 1* repeat from * around, sl st to join (88).
Round 26: Ch 1, 2 sc in each space around, sl st to join (88).
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Inside Bottom Corners:
Fold the triangular point inwards on the inside bottom of the bag.
Cut a long piece of yarn and with your tapestry needle, sew up the corner of the bag diagonally across, about 1.5″ in.
Continue to sew along the two sides of the point through the bag, attaching the point to the bottom of the bag.
Fasten off and weave in ends on the inside of the bag.
Strap Rings:
Hold your bag up and find the two end stitches on either side of the top opening of the bag.
Place a stitch marker here.
Cut a long piece of yarn and with your tapestry needle, sew a keychain ring to the side of the bag.
Work the needle through the ring and stitch about 5-6 times then weave in and out on the inside of the bag to secure.
Fasten off.
Repeat with the other side.
Strap:
With 2 strands held together, ch 1 over the keychain and sc 4, ch 1.
Row 1: Sc in each st across, turn (4).
Rows 2-56: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (4).
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
With tapestry needle, sew the end to the other keychain side of the bag.
Weave in ends.
