Crochet Child Cactus Mittens

Materials:
-Yarn- medium worsted weight yarn in green (size 4)
-Hook size: H, 5.00 mm (for small size only), other sizes use a size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook
-Blunt needle
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
sc- single crochet
sc2tog- single crochet two together
sl st- slip stitch
Gauge:
7 sc = 2 inch
Special stitch:
*Bobble stitch: Sc in first, ch 2, sl st in same stitch to form bump.
Notes:
You will be working from in the round from right to left.
Sizing:
Small: 4-6 years
Medium: 7-9 years
Large: 10-12 years
For the cuff:
With brown yarn ch 8, 10, 12
Row 1-14,16,18: Sc in back loops, ch 1, turn.
Fold in half and sl st ends together through both loops.
Right Hand:
Row 1: Change to green yarn, ch 1, evenly space 18, 20, 22 sts around.
Continue to work in the round, add stitch marker here to keep track of rows.
Row 2: 8, 10, 10 bobble, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, sc 7, 7, 9 (20, 22, 24).
Row 3 : Sc in each st around (20, 22, 24).
Row 4: 8, 10, 10 bobble, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, sc 9, 9, 11 (22, 24, 26).
Row 5: Sc in each st around (22, 24, 26).
Row 6: 8, 10, 10 bobble, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, sc 11, 11, 13 (24, 26, 28).
Row 7: Sc in each st around (24, 26, 28).
***For small size only 8 bobble, skip 8 sts (for thumb), sl st in next st, sc 10 (18). Continue with row 11. For other sizes continue with row 8.***
Row 8: 10, 10 bobble, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 13, 15 (28, 30).
Row 9: Sc in each st around (28, 30).
Row 10: 10, 10 bobble, skip 9, 10 sts (for thumb), sl st in next st, sc 9, 10 (19, 20).
Left Hand:
Work the same way as the right hand until row 2.
Row 2: 8, 10, 10 bobble, sc 7, 7, 9, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc (20, 22, 24).
Row 3: Sc in each st around (20, 22, 24).
Row 4: 8, 10, 10 bobble, sc 9, 9,11, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc (22, 24, 26).
Row: 5: Sc in each st around (22, 24, 26).
Row: 6: 8, 10, 10 bobble, sc 11, 11, 13, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc (24, 26, 28).
Row 7: Sc in each st around (24, 26, 28).
***For small size only, 8 bobble, sc 10, skip 8 sts (for thumb), sl st in next st (18). Continue with row 11. For other sizes continue with row 8.***
Row 8: 10, 10 bobble, sc 13, 15, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc (28, 30).
Row 9: Sc in each st around (28, 30).
Row 10: 10, 10 bobble, sc 9, 10, skip 9, 10 sts (for thumb), sl st in next st (19, 20).
Right and Left hand:
Row 11: Sc in each st around (18, 19, 20).
Row 12: 8, 10, 10 bobble, sc 10, 8, 10 (18, 19, 20).
Row 13: Sc in each st around (18, 19, 20).
Row 14: 8, 10, 10 bobble, sc 10, 8, 10 (18, 19, 20).
Row 15: Sc 7, 8, 8, sc2tog, sc 7, 7, 8, sc2tog (16, 17, 18).
Row 16: Sc 6, 7, 7, sc2tog, sc 6, 6, 7, sc2tog (14, 15, 16).
Row 17: Sc 5, 6, 6, sc2tog, sc 5, 5, 6, sc2tog (12, 13, 14).
Row 18: Sc 4, 5, 5, sc2tog, sc 4, 4, 5, sc2tog (10, 11, 12).
Row 19: Sc2tog around until you have 5, 5, 6, sts left.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Thumb:
Insert hook in first and last st of the 8, 8, 10 sc sts and pull up a lp.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in 8, 8, 10 sts around, sl st to join.
Row 2-5: Repeat round 1. Add one more row for the large size and continue with row 6.
Row 6: Sc2tog 4, 4, 5 times, fasten off and weave in end. Turn thumb inside out and fasten off on inside with blunt needle.
Cactus spikes:
With white yarn cut short pieces of yarn approx. 5″.
Pull one side through at various points throughout the mittens and tie in a knot.
Trim to desired length.
Repeat as many times as you like, repeat with the other mitten with the same number of spikes.
