This butterfly crochet pattern uses basic stitches. Single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet are used to make the butterfly’s wings (2 separate pieces). The wings are then joined together for this cute crochet butterfly pattern with a single crochet and antennas added. This pattern uses a size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook but you can make different sizes of butterflies, larger and smaller butterflies, by changing your hook size. Fun to make with soft yarn and bright colors!

Crochet Butterfly

Materials:
- Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook for medium weight yarn, size I, 5.5 mm for bulky weight yarn
- Medium worsted weight yarn (size 4) or bulky weight yarn (size 5) in 2 colors (one for the body of the butterfly and one for wings)
- Tapestry needle
Measurements:
The final measurement of the butterfly when using a size H hook is approx. 2 3/4″ wide x 2″ tall.
The final measurement of the butterfly when using a size I hook is approx. 3″ wide by 2.5″ tall.
Abbreviations:
st(s)- stitches
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
Pattern:
Wings (make 2)
Ch 6
Row 1: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hk, sc next 2 sts, hdc, 6 dc in end st, work back down other side of foundation chain. Hdc, sc in last 3 sts, sl st to join (14). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Body:
Pick up a st and insert your hook in the front loop of the left wing and the back loop only of the right wing and sc, joining the wings together. Continue to sc in this way up the stitches of the butterfly (5 stitches total) until you reach the top of the wings. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Antenna:
Cut a piece of yarn (same color as body) about 8 inches. Fold in half. Insert your hook at the top stitch of the “head” and pull the middle of the yarn through. Yarn over and pull through. Tug to secure. Trim to 1/4″ or desired length.
