These crochet heart nesting baskets are a great project to make with this free crochet pattern!
I love accenting them around my home to use for treats, loose change, accessories, jewelry, crochet supplies and more!
The baskets are worked up by making two halves of the heart first then stitching them together. The baskets use 2 strands together to make them nice and sturdy and are finished off with the crab stitch to give a nice detail to the top! They are great to put small items, use as a storage basket, gift basket and a great way to decorate your home! Makes a great gift!
This is a perfect gift for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s day and any occasion. This is a great crochet project any time of year!
They look great in the kitchen, living room and are fun to make in different colors. I used a solid color but am thinking of variegated yarn next!
These crochet hearts nesting baskets are written in 3 different sizes:
small basket- 3″ at widest point X 1.5″ tall
Medium basket: 4.5″ at widest point X 1 3/4″ tall
Large basket: 6.5″ at widest point X 2″ tall
The width is measured at the hearts widest measurement across.
Enjoy the written pattern which also includes a video tutorial!

Materials:
– H hook, 5.00 mm crochet hook
– Medium weight cotton yarn (yarn size 4), I used 100% mercerized cotton yarn in pink, you can also use acrylic yarn if you would like. I think cotton is the best choice for this project because the basket will take on its shape better. Fun to make in additional colors!
– Blunt needle
Notes:
Basket is made using 2 strands held together. This helps the basket to be sturdier than using 1 strand.
Special stitches:
Waistcoat stitch, aka split single crochet (splsc): Instead of doing a sc as normal you will work in the middle of the V part from the previous row and sc. This creates a knit style look.
Crab stitch, aka reverse single crochet: Instead of crocheting from right to left as you normally would, work from left to right, inserting your hook in the stitch directly behind it and working a single crochet.
Abbreviations:
st(s)- stitch(es)
