Create these simple and fun crochet Halloween wind spinners! Choose from pumpkin, spider or candy corn! They work up quickly and can easily be made in one evening!

Measurements:
Candy Corn Wind Spinner:
The wind spinner (by itself) measures approx. 19″ long and 3.5″ wide. The candy corn measures approx. 4″ wide by 5.5″ tall. The total length of the candy corn wind spinner measures approx. 30″.
Spider Wind Spinner:
The wind spinner (by itself) measures approx. 19″ long and 3.5″ wide. The spider (not including legs) measures approx. 4″ long X 2.5″ wide.
Pumpkin Wind Spinner:
The wind spinner (by itself) measures approx. 19″ long and 3.5″ wide. The pumpkin measures approx. 4″ X 4″.
Materials
- F hook, 3.75 mm
- Medium worsted weight yarn, size 4 (cotton yarn works too). I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in burnt pumpkin, yellow, white, coffee, green and black. Any medium weight yarn will work well. Red Heart Super Saver is also a good choice:
- Tapestry needle
- 3 pipe cleaners (for spider only)
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
hk- hook
st(s)- stitch(es)
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
hdc2tog- half double crochet 2 together
hdc3tog- half double crochet 3 together
Gauge:
14 dc’s X 6 rows = 4″ square
Tip: You can make your wind spinner longer or shorter if you ch more or less in your foundation chain.
Pattern for candy corn wind spinner:
With white yarn Ch 60
Row 1: Dc in third ch from the hk and each st across (58).
Row 2: Switch to orange yarn and ch 2. 2 dc in each st across (58).
Row 3: Switch to yellow yarn and ch 2. 3 dc in each st across (58). Continue to ch 20, sl st in first ch and fasten off (creates loop for hanging).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Important: Coil up your wind spinner so it hangs correctly when you hang it.
Candy corn:
With yellow yarn ch 17.
Row 1: Hdc in third ch from the hk and each st to end (15).
Row 2: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next 11 sts, hdc2tog (13).
Row 3: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (13).
Row 4: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next 9 sts, hdc2tog (11).
Row 5: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (11).
Row 6: Switch to orange yarn, ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (11).
Row 7: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next 7 sts, hdc2tog (9).
Row 8: Ch 2 turn, hdc in each st across (9).
Row 9: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next 5 sts, hdc2tog (7).
Row 10: Switch to white yarn ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (7).
Row 11: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next 3 sts, hdc2tog (5).
Row 12: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (5).
Row 13: Ch 2, turn, hdc2tog, hdc next st, hdc2tog (3).
Row 14: Ch 2, turn, hdc in each st across (3).
Row 15: Ch 2, turn, hdc3tog (1).
Fasten off leaving a tail to sew onto wind spinner. With tapestry needle sew the top of the candy corn to the base of the wind spinner.
Weave in all ends.
Fringe:
Cut 15″ strands of each color. Fold in half. Pick up the middle fold of the yarn in a st and yarn over and pull strands through. Repeat in each st across alternating colors. Trim to 4-4.5″ or desired length.
Important: Coil your wind spinner in a circle before hanging so it lays correctly when you hang it.
Pattern for spider wind spinner:
With white yarn Ch 60
Row 1: Dc in third ch from the hk and each st across (58).
Row 2: Ch 2. 2 dc in each st across (58).
Row 3: Ch 2. 3 dc in each st across (58). Continue to ch 20, sl st in first ch and fasten off (creates loop for hanging).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Spider:
Head:
With black yarn make a magic circle and ch 2.
Row 1: 10 dc in circle and sl st to join (10). Fasten off and weave in ends.
Body:
With black yarn make a magic circle and ch 2.
Row 1: 10 dc in circle and sl t to join (10).
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around (20). Fasten off leaving a tail to attach to the head. With tapestry needle sew the head onto the body. Weave in ends.
Legs:
Cut 8 pieces of pipe cleaner about 4″. Space 4 pipe cleaners evenly on either side of the body. Pull apart the stitch with your nails and insert the pipe cleaner in the stitch. Twist end to secure. Repeat for each leg. Bend the leg in half to give the legs shape.
Cut a long piece of white yarn and knot one end to the wind spinner and the other to the bottom of the spider so the spider hangs about 5″. Weave in ends.
Optional: Twist one of the spiders legs around the hanging web.
Important: Coil your wind spinner in a circle before hanging so it lays correctly when you hang it.
Pumpkin wind spinner:
With orange yarn Ch 60
Row 1: Dc in third ch from the hk and each st across (58).
Row 2: Ch 2. 2 dc in each st across (58).
Row 3: Change to green yarn and ch 2. 3 dc in each st across (58). Continue to ch 20, sl st in first ch and fasten off (creates loop for hanging).
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Pumpkin:
With orange yarn make a magic circle and ch 2
Row 1: Dc 11 sts into the circle, sl st to join (11).
Row 2: 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (22).
Row 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in next 10 sts, sl st in next 2 sts, 2 dc in last 10 sts, sl st to join (42). Fasten off, leaving tail to weave in.
Brown stem:
With brown yarn ch 3, sc next 2 sts, sl st in first st and fasten off. Weave in end.
Green stem:
With green yarn pick up a stitch near the bottom of the stem and ch 7. 2 sc in each stitch, sl st in first st and fasten off. Weave in ends.
Cut a long piece of brown yarn and knot one end to the wind spinner and the other to the top of the pumpkin so the pumpkin hangs about 2″. Weave in ends.
Re coil you wind spinners if you need to. Find a spot for it to hang and enjoy!

Hi! The spider head and body are worked up separately and in the round. Then they are stitched together with a tapestry needle. Hope this helps!
Is there a correct top & bottom of the wind spinner? Mines not spinning nicely, maybe I hung it up side down?
