Crochet Chemo Cap

Create this beautiful crochet chemo cap for someone special.

The design features a beautiful texture on the outside and contrasting colors and lays flat on the inside. The stitches are close together and the yarn soft to make for a comfortable fit.

This pattern uses a size H crochet hook and very soft yarn (see the yarn I used listed below. Also see the list of acceptable soft yarns to choose from when making a chemo cap).

crochet chemo cap

Materials:

– Size H, 5.0 mm crochet hook

– A very soft medium weight yarn. I used Hobby Lobby’s Yarn Bee Hint of Silk in “Oriental Tea” and “Smoked Silk” with a small amount of “Dusty Rose” for the ribbon. This yarn is 85% Bamboo and 15% silk. About 3 oz needed.

Here’s a complete list of acceptable yarns for chemo caps from Knots of Love.

– Blunt needle

Things to keep in mind when making chemo caps:

– Keep stitches small without big holes

– Stitches should lay flat

– Choose very soft yarn (see list above)

Abbreviations:

st(s)- stitch(es)

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

mc- main color

Note:

When changing colors, do not fasten off the previous color. Pick up the new color when you get to the next row.

IMPORTANT:

  • You will be working in the BLO for the rows made with the main color (for the body of the hat).
  • You will be working in the third loops only for the rows made with the contrasting color (for the body of the hat).

Third loop only:

Have just made your Chemo Cap for the first time and find my line joins are really messy on the textured side (I used Caron variegated cotton rather than two colours). The other side are not too bad for a change from 1 CH line start for the SC to the 2 CH line start for the HDC – but I so want to make the textured side the outer side. . I can send photos but wonder if you can guess what I might be doing wrong. Signed: “Miss Newbie”
