Create these adorable crochet braided baby set with this easy to follow pattern!
Sizing for the booties is easily adjustable, just change your hook size!
The braided trim features the puff stitch to create a beautiful accent along the cuff of the booties and bottom of the hat. You can make the hat as a beanie or add the optional earflap and braided sides.
The booties are sizes newborn-18 months and the hat sizes newborn-toddler.
Perfect for your little one or worthy of gifting.
You can make the set in a single color or two colors for a contrast (directions given in pattern). There is also an optional braided earflap section.
How to make your booties not slip:
I get this question a lot and have a couple solutions I think work really well:
- Puff paint. Squirt little dots or lines of puff paint on the bottoms. Turn them upside down and let them dry overnight before use.
2. Clear plasti dip spray. This is my preferred method as it works really well and just sprays on. Be sure to do this outdoors. Spray the bottoms and let dry overnight before use.

Left earflap:
Lay the hat flat with the earflap facing you, turn over and pick up a lp on the opposite side of the hat where the end of the earflap is.
Ch 1, sc next 8, 10 sts and repeat rows 1-9 of the earflap.
Do not fasten off on last row. Continue to sc around the entire piece with 2 sc in each corner of the earflaps. Sl st in beginning ch and fasten off. Weave in end.
Side Braids:
Holding both colors together, cut 8, 40″ strands of yarn (of each color). Fold in half, insert hook in the center of the base of the earflap and grab the center of the yarn strands with your hook.
Yarn over and pull all strands through the loop. You may need to use a larger hook to get all the yarn strands though the base of the earflap, then I just pull the yarn through with my hand.
Divide yarn into 3 sections by color and braid down. At the base you will knot and pull tightly to secure. Trim ends. Repeat on other side.
Braided Trim:
With contrasting color (optional), pick up a st on the back seam of the hat on the last row of the top and ch 1. Sc in the next row (second row from bottom) and ch 2.
Row 1: Puff in the first st, ch 1, puff in same st, ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Puff in between the 2 puffs from the first row, ch 1, puff in same st, ch 2, turn.
Repeat row 2 until your puff braid is long enough to wrap around the entire hat. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on. With your tapestry needle weave in and out to sew the puff braid on the top of the hat. Attach the end to the beginning of your puff braid then sew around the top and bottom. Fasten off and weave in ends.
