Abbreviations:
st(s)- stitch(es)
ch- chain
hdc- half double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
Pattern:
Make a magic circle, ch 2. 10 hdc in circle, sl st to close (10).
Row 1: Ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to join (20).
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc, 2 hdc,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (30).
Row 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (40).
Fasten off leaving a long tail.
Fold the cookie in half with the wrong side facing in. Stitch the middle of the ends together.
Push down the middle of the cookie (middle of fold) and pinch together.
Sew in between the folds on the inside of the cookie where you pinched it. Weave in and out across and fasten off.
Sew along the outer edge of the cookie though both loops leaving about an inch on either side (room left to add a note). This will make a nice edging for the fortune cookie.
Weave in all ends.
Cut strips of paper and write a handmade message on them or use this template to print out some cute messages (click on link below for PDF):
Fold and stuff in your cookie and give to your Valentine!
Pin it for later:
Thank you for the adorable pattern. I am making them for my grandchilldren. I got the first two steps, but the step that says: Push down the middle of the cookie and pinch together, I don’t understand. When you stitch the two sides together, do you push it flat? Thank you.
Hi, push the sides together where there is the opening on either side (where you would stick the message) and push the center inbetween (where the fold is) down a little. Then you will stitch in and out between the two openings. Hope this helps!
Thank you for sharing. My grandkids will love this
You’re so welcome! Thank you!
