The crochet pom neck warmer is such a beautiful statement piece, enjoy the free pattern!

It is easy to work up yet shows a lot of detail, looks great paired with a solid top! Makes a great gift as well!

The neck warmer slips over your head then you roll the collar down. Measures approx. 7.5″ wide.

Crochet Pom Neck Warmer

If you would like to purchase the ad free PDF download version of this pattern you can do so in my Etsy shop HERE.

In my Ravelry store HERE.

Materials:

  • Medium worsted weight yarn (4), 280 yards, I used Hobby Lobby’s I love This Yarn. Lion Brand has some nice yarns in a great variety of colors that I would recommend:

  • Size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook

  • Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:

st(s)- stitch(es)

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

hdc- half double crochet

dc- double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

Pom stitch:

yarn over, go through stitch and pull up a lp, yarn over, go through same stitch again and pull up a lp, repeat 2 more times (4 total) then pull yarn through all loops on hook.

Bead stitch:

After you’ve made your dc, yo and insert hook around the post you made with the dc. You will be working sideways. Yo again and insert hook around the dc, yo again and insert hook around the dc, yo one more time and insert hook again around the dc. Yo and pull through all loops, 1 bead stitch made.

Neck Warmer Pattern:

Ch 98

Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from the hk and each st across, turn (96).

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (96).

Row 3: Ch 2, *sk next st, dc in next, bead st,* repeat from * to end, ending with a dc in last st, turn (96).

Row 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in each sp across ending with 2 dc in last st, turn (96).

Row 5: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (96).

Repeat rows 3-5 two more times for a total of 11 rows. Fasten off on last row.

Sewing:

Position the scarf so one side goes over the other side coming to a point in the front.

Once you have it positioned where you like, sew through both layers at 3 points: on each corner where the top part of the scarf overlaps and on the other side. Weave in ends.

Pom Edging:

Pick up a loop anywhere around the edging of the scarf and hdc 90 (doesn’t have to be exact but needs to be a multiple of 2) evenly around (hdc through both overlapping areas). Sl st in last st.

With the wrong side facing you, ch 2.

Row 1: *Pom in the 2nd ch from the hk, ch 1, sl st in same st, sc in next 2 sts, ch2,* repeat from * around. Sl st in last st and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Pin it for later!

Hi Laura! I really love this neck warmer, great pattern! Does the chain 2 at the beginning of the round count as a stitch? I feel like sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t?

Hi there! Want to make this but have a clarifying question.

on the bead stitch, after I pull through all the loops, do I do a single stitch to close it? Or do I pull through the loops and go straight into a doubly crochet again? I’m doing a closing stitch and I feel like it’s expanding too much. Please help! Thank you!!

Hi Laura, Just found your pattern yesterday and new to your blog. Question on the Pom Edging section…it says to hdc 90 (or an even #)…but says to sc where the scarf overlaps. Is that a typo or intentionsl (sc for the overlap parts but hdc on the rest?) I’ll try it both ways…I wonder if the sc causes the bottom to shape differently. Thanks for sharing your design, I’m starting now!

Hi Pam! It is hdc in the part where it overlaps. So sorry, I did not catch that typo before, it is corrected now 🙂

Thanks, I thought I was going crazy….just went back on your site because I’m ready to start on the edging and saw it was hdc all around and thought uh-oh, I must have read it wrong the first time, lol!! I love you pattern, I’m already planning another one. Buying the pattern this time …get a cup of coffee as a thank you!

love the beaded pom neck warmer but it doesn’t say how to do the pom portion. Am I missing something or should I already know this?
