Lay the hat flat with the earflap facing you, turn over and pick up a st on the opposite side of the hat where the end of the earflap is.

Ch 1, sc next 12 sts and repeat rows 1-9 of the earflap.

Do not fasten off on last row. Continue to sc around the entire piece with 2 sc in each corner of the earflaps. Sl st in beginning ch and fasten off. Weave in end.

Side Braids:

Holding 3 colors together (pink, white, turquoise), cut 6, 40″ strands of yarn (of each color). Fold in half, insert hook in the center of the base of the earflap and grab the center of the yarn strands with your hook.

Yarn over and pull all strands through the loop. You may need to use a larger hook to get all the yarn strands though the base of the earflap, then I just pull the yarn through with my hand.

Divide yarn into 3 sections by color and braid down. At the base you will knot and pull tightly to secure. Trim ends. Repeat on other side.

Pin it for later!
