Country Spice Crochet Pumpkins

Create these cute Country Spice pumpkins for your Fall decor! I love making these little pumpkins because they are so easy, have great texture and cute added details!

The body of the pumpkin is made with half double crochet stitches then the texture color contrast is added. I use a simple technique I call the horizontal single crochet that gives any crochet project beautiful texture (video included in post). Finish by sewing together then adding a cinnamon stick and wire ribbon and you have cute little pumpkin decorations!

If you would like to purchase the ad free PDF version of this pattern you can do so in my Etsy shop HERE.

Materials:

  • Medium worsted weight yarn in 2 colors (per pumpkin). I used “I Love This Yarn” in “Burnt Pumpkin”, “Sungold” and Grey Beard”
  • Size H, 5.00 mm crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Cinnamon sticks

  • Bendable ribbon, I used a bendable burlap ribbon 1.5″ width purchased from JoAnns, here is a similar on on Amazon:

  • Blunt needle
  • Optional: Glue to keep cinnamon stick in place

Abbreviations:

ch: chain

hk: hook

st(s): stitches

hdc: half double crochet

BLO: back loops only

sl st- slip stitch

Small Pumpkin (measures 4″ wide by 3″ tall)

Ch 12

Row 1: Hdc in the third ch from the hk and each st to the end (10).

Rows 2-16: Ch 2, hdc in each st across (10).

Continue with the “construction” section.

Medium Pumpkin (measures 6″ wide by 4″ tall)

Ch 22

Row 1: Hdc in the third ch from the hk and each st to the end (20).

Rows 2-24: Ch 2, hdc in the BLO in each st across (20).

Continue with the “construction” section.

Large Pumpkin (measures 8″ wide by 7″ tall)

Ch 31

Row 1: Hdc in second ch from the hk and each st to the end (30).

Rows 2-34: Ch 2, hdc in the BLO in each st across (30).

Continue with the “construction” section.

Construction:

Horizontal single crochet every two rows with contrasting color and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Horizontal single crochet:

Start from the back seam and single crochet horizontally between each 2 rows. Single crochet across between each post. Fasten off. With your blunt needle weave the ends into the first st and fasten off on the inside of your work.

Here is a video showing the horizontal crochet stitch:

Fold in half and sl st through booth loops across to end.

Horizontal single crochet your contrasting color along the seam you just made.

Fasten off leaving a long tail.

With your blunt needle, weave in and out around the base of the pumpkin and pull tight to close shut (tuck in the loose end so you don’t have to weave it in). Keep weaving in and out around the bottom to secure the base then pull blunt needle through the middle bottom of the pumpkin so the yarn is on the inside.

Fill with stuffing.

Weave your blunt needle in and out around the top of the pumpkin. As you pull to close shut, put your cinnamon stick in the middle (you may have to push the stuffing a part a little in the middle to get the cinnamon stick to sit in the middle) of the pumpkin and close tight. Use whatever length of stem you would like. Snap the stick in half if you need to. Weave in and out around the top of the stick to secure it (you may wish to add some glue at the top if you don’t want the cinnamon stick to be pulled out. I did not use glue on mine as they will stay put unless you pull them out).

Ribbon:

Cut your ribbon 16″ for large pumpkin, 13″ for medium pumpkin, 10″ for small pumpkin. Tie a knot around the cinnamon stick and curl each end with your finger. Curl the ends under so the wire doesn’t show.
You’re done! Make as many as you like for your home decor!

Pin it for later!
