Create this cute and fun crochet crown with this easy to follow pattern!
The pattern is written in 2 versions so you can make the crown or a crown headband for the warmer months. The crown features the bead stitch and a shell and picot border at the top! Worked from the bottom up and uses a size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook.

Materials:
- I hook, 5.5 mm
- Medium worsted weight yarn (4)
- Tapestry needle
Special stitch:
Picot: Ch 3, sl st into the first ch.
Bead stitch: After you’ve made your dc, yo and insert hook around the post you made with the dc. You will be working sideways. Yo again and insert hook around the dc, yo one more time and insert hook again around the dc. Yo and pull through all loops, 1 bead stitch made.
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
hk- hook
sc- single crochet
hdc- half double crochet
dc- double crochet
trb- treble crochet
BLO- back loops only
sl st- slip stitch
sk- skip
Pattern for crown headband:
Ch 8
For wider spaced band (smaller crown pictured):
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from the hk and each ch to end, turn (6).
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in the BLO in each st across, turn (6).
Repeat row 2 until piece measures the corresponding size below:
For closer spaced band (larger crown pictured):
Ch 7
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each ch to end, turn (6).
Row 2: Ch 1, hdc in the BLO in each st across, turn (6).
Repeat row 2 until piece measures the corresponding size below:
Sizing:
newborn: 13″
0-3M: 14″
3-6M: 15″
6-12M: 16″
Toddler: 17″
Child: 18″
Teen/Adult: 19″
Large Adult: 20″
Fold band in half and sl st ends together.
Sc evenly around the top to corresponding size, sl st to join:
newborn: 40 sts
0-3M: 44 sts
3-6M: 48 sts
6-12M: 52 sts
Toddler: 56 sts
Child: 60 sts
Teen/Adult: 66 sts
Large Adult: 70 sts
Next row: Ch 1, sc in the 3rd loop only around, sl st to join.
Next row: Ch 2, sk next st, *dc in next, bead st around the dc you made, ch 1, sk next st,* repeat from * around, ending with a bead st around the ch 2, sl st to join.
Next row: Ch 1, 2 sc in between each bead st from previous row, sl st to join.
Next row: Ch 1, sc in the 3rd loop only around, sl st to join.
Crown Spikes:
Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc, trb, picot, trb, dc, dc, *skip next 3 sts, sl st in next st, in next st dc, dc, trb, picot, trb, dc, dc,* repeat from * around, ending with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in end.
Pattern for crown:
Ch the amount of chains for your corresponding size, sl st to join:
newborn: ch 40
0-3M: ch 44
3-6M: ch 48
6-12M: ch 52
Toddler: ch 56
Child: ch 60
Teen/Adult: ch 66
Large Adult: ch 70
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the 3rd loop only around, sl st to join.
Row 3: Ch 2, sk next st, *dc in next, bead st around the dc you made, ch 1, sk next st,* repeat from * around, ending with a bead st around the ch 2, sl st to join.
Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in between each bead st from previous row, sl st to join.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in the 3rd loop only around, sl st to join.

Please explain how to sc in the 3rd loop only. I thought this had to be done
following a hdc row. I can’t figure out where the 3rd loop is.
You can sc in the 3rd loop following a sc row too. It is the loop directly behind the back loop.
