Crochet Textured Flower Crossbody Bag Pattern

Materials

• Hook: I (5.5 mm)

• Medium worsted weight yarn (I used Red Heart Soft, a little over 1 skein)

• 2 buttons

• Darning needle

• Sewing needle

• Threading floss

• 2 D-rings (optional)

• Crossbody strap with clips (optional)

Gauge: 14 sts = 4 inches

Abbreviations

• ch – chain

• sc – single crochet

• hdc – half double crochet

• dc – double crochet

• fpdc – front post double crochet

• sl st – slip stitch

• st(s) – stitch(es)

• lp – loop

• BLO – back loop only

Final measurement: Approx. 8 x 10″.

Bag Body

1. Ch 28.

2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each st across, turn (27 sts).

3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (27).

4. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first st, fpdc in next st, repeat across ending with sc, turn (27).

5. Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (27).

Repeat Rows 3–4 until piece measures 10”, ending with Row 3. (Each fpdc should align roughly with the previous fpdc.)

Optional Base Color: Change yarn for the next 5 rows to create a contrasting base.

• Ch 1, sc in each st across. Repeat 5 rows (27 sts).

Continue repeating Rows 3–4 until piece measures 10”, ending with Row 3.

• Ch 1, sc in each st across (27). Fasten off.

Construction

1. Using a darning needle and a long piece of yarn, sew up both sides of the bag from the bottom.

2. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Yarn Strap (Optional)

Attach yarn to the middle side of the bag, continue to chain desired length:
• Little kid – 120 chains
• Older kid – 130 chains
• Teen/Adult – 140 chains

Sl st to opposite side of bag.

Ch 1, turn.
Sc in each st across.

Sl st into bag to secure.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Crossbody Strap Option: Attach a strap with clips to D-rings. Straps can be found at thrift stores or online for $4–$5.

D-Rings (Optional)

• Sew ½-inch D-rings to the inside of the bag, 1” from the top on each side.

Flower

1. Row 1: Ch 6, sl st in first ch to form a ring.

2. Row 2: Ch 8, sl st in next st, repeat around.

3. Row 3: In first loop: sc, hdc, 6 dc, ch 1, 6 dc, hdc, sc, repeat in each loop around, sl st to join. Fasten off.

Finishing Options:

• Option 1: Overlap the petals for a flat flower.

• Option 2: Using threading floss and a tapestry needle, weave in and out the ends of each petal and pull tight to create a more closed, dimensional flower. Fasten off at the back.

Sew the flower to the front of the bag and attach a button in the center.

Buttonhole

1. Find the center of the back of the bag.

2. With 2 long strands of yarn held together, draw up a loop and ch 6 (or adjust for your button).

3. Sl st into the same st, fasten off, and weave in ends.

4. Sew button to the front so it lines up with the buttonhole.
