These crochet shark mittens are the cutest! Written in toddler, small child and larger child sizes (approx. ages listed below). These mittens work up fast and are sure to delight any child! My son just loves his shark mittens (“chomp, chomp” he said as he put them on)! The mittens use medium worsted weight yarn (size 4) and a size H, 5.0 mm crochet hook.

Materials:

• Medium worsted weight yarn, size 4
• Small amount of white yarn
• Hook size: H, 5.0 mm
• Black floss (to sew on eye)
• 2 small buttons for eyes, about .5″ (for child sizes)
• Small amount of black yarn (for toddler size, for eyes)
• Blunt needle

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

st- stitch

hk- hook

sc- single crochet

sc2tog- single crochet 2 together

sl st- slip stitch

Sizing:

This pattern is written in toddler (approx. age 2-4), small child (approx. age 5-6) and larger child (approx. age 6-7) sizes.

The larger sizes are shown in ( ).

PLEASE NOTE:

The button eyes are meant for the child sizes. Please use black yarn and your blunt needle to sew on the eyes for the toddler sizes as small buttons could be a choking hazard.

For the cuff:

Ch 8, 10, 10

Row 1-14 (16, 18): Sc in back loops, ch 1, turn. (7, 9, 9)

Fold in half and sl st ends together through both loops.

Right and Left Hand:

Row 1: Ch 1, evenly space 18 (22, 26) sc around (18, 22, 26).

Continue to work in the round, add stitch marker here to keep track of rows.

Row 2: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 5 (9, 13) sc (20, 24, 28).

Row 3: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2sc, 7 (11, 15) sc (22, 26, 30).

Row 4: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 9 (13, 17) sc (24, 28, 32).

Row 5: sc 10, 2 sc, sc, 2 sc, 11 (15, 19) sc (26, 30, 34)

Row 6: sc 8 (10, 10), skip 8 (8, 10) sts (for thumb), sc 10 (12, 14). (18, 22, 24).

Row 7-10 : sc in each st around (18, 22, 24).

Row 11: sc 8 (9, 10), sc2tog, sc 7 (10, 11) sc2tog of last st of this row and first st of next row.

Continue to work in this way decreasing on each row on each side until you have 3 sts left on your hk. Sew on your eye (button for child sizes, yarn for toddler size) as you decrease before your opening gets too small.

Thumb:

Pull up a loop near the inside of the thumb hole and ch 1.

***Continue to work in the round***

Rows 1-5: Sc in each st around (8, 8, 10).

Row 6: Sc2tog 4 times for toddler and small child sizes, sc2tog 5 times for the larger child size.

Sl st in first st and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Teeth:

With white yarn pick up a st at the inside base of the thumb and evenly sc sts to a few rows under the nose. This doesn’t need to be an exact number but an even number.

Row 1: *Ch 3, sc next 2 sts from the hk, sl st next 2 sts,* repeat from * across to the other end. Sl st at bottom of last tooth and fasten off. Weave in end.

Shark Fin:

Toddler sized fin:

Ch 5

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each ch across, turn (4).

Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, twice, turn (2).

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in next 2 sts, turn (2).

Row 4: Ch 2, sc2tog, turn (1).

Sc evenly around the fin with 2 sc in each corner. Sl st in first st and fasten off. Cut a long piece of yarn and sew onto mitten.

Smaller child/larger child fin:

Ch 7

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hk and each ch across, turn (6).

Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn (4).

Row 3 Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn(4).

Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, twice, turn (2).

Row 5: Ch 1, sc next 2 sts, turn (2).

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, turn (1).

Sc evenly around the fin with 2 sc in each corner. Sl st in first st and fasten off. Cut a long piece of yarn and sew onto mitten.

Repeat with other mitten making sure you have it facing the opposite the other mitten to make a right and left handed set.
