– Pipe cleaner (5″ for adults, 4″ for child)
Instructions:
Cut your fabric according to size:
15″ X 9″ for adult size
14″ X 8″ for teen size
13″ X 7″ for child size
12″ X 6″ for toddler size
Fold the sides in 1/4″ and fold over again 1/4″. Sew the sides down.
With the wrong side out, fold your fabric in half vertically. Sew along the top 2″ in on either side, leaving a 3″-4″ opening at the top.
Bring your sewn seam with opening to the middle of your mask. Iron down the middle to make it flat.
Now we’re going to sew down the sides. Place your elastic in each corner on the inside with the elastic facing in. The picture below shows how the elastic should look underneath the top layer. You can pin your elastic to help keep it in place as you sew the sides or it also helps to hand sew the ends in place before you sew down the sides to keep them in place. Continue to sew down the sides with about 1/4″ seam allowance.
Fold your mask inside out through your opening.
Put your pipe cleaner inside the pocket up along the top of the seam and pin to secure.
Turn your mask over with the right side facing you (not the pocket side) and begin your pleats. Start about an inch from the top and fold your pleats up about 1/4″. Pin your pleats in place. Make a total of 3 pleats. Carefully sew around the entire mask being careful to pull the pins out as you go. Fasten off. Put your mask on with the pipe cleaner side at your nose. Push down around the pipe cleaner to fit the top to your face.
You’re done! Insert your filter and wash between uses.
Pin it for later!
