My 3 year old son wanted to be Marshall for Halloween this year and lucky me I found a Marshall costume in his size second hand for $2! Great! But it was just for the body of the costume…no accessories…not to fear for this crochet mom!
I went to work on making him a hat and some cute paw gloves to match! Now he will have the complete costume, stay warm and be able to wear it after Halloween too!

With color A make magic circle and ch 2.
10 dc in ring, sl st to join (10).
Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (20).

For child and older child/adult size add another increasing row here then continue the pattern. This will count as row 5, then continue with row 6-12 of the pattern. For toddler size continue with row 5.
Child size row: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, ending with dc in last 3 sts, sl st to join.
Older child/adult size row: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Ear Flaps (I hook): (With color C):
Count over 10 sts from the back seam where you just fastened off. Draw up a lp and ch 1. Sc next 10 sts.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 6 sts, sc2tog, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc next 8 sts, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc next 6 sts.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc next 4 sts.
Fasten off 1 earflap. Lay the hat flat with the earflap facing you, turn over and pick up a lp on the opposite side of the hat where the end of the earflap is.
Ch 1, sc next 10 sts and repeat rows 1-6 of the earflap. Don’t fasten off, sc around the entire hat with 2sc in each corner of the earflaps.
Fasten off and weave in end.
Side Braids:
Holding all 3 colors together, cut 6, 40″ strands of yarn (of each color). Fold in half, insert hook in the center of the base of the earflap and grab the center of the yarn strands with your hook.
Pull through and yarn over all straps through the loop. You may need to use a larger hook to get all the yarn strands though the base of the earflap, then I just pull the yarn through with my hand.
Now divide into 3 sections and braid down. At the base you will knot and pull tightly to secure. Trim ends. Repeat on other side.

Thank you!
thank you so much for the wonderful pattern. I am on a very limited budget so gift buying is hard to do. Now my grandson will be jumping for joy. I bet he will sleep with the hat on.Thank you again for giving us these patterns. We know they will be well used.Bless you.

You are very welcome! That makes me happy to hear! My son just loves his and I'm sure yours will too :)
Thanks for the adorable pattern - my Marshall-loving 2.5 year old will be thrilled! Just a heads up, looks like the earflap row 5 should read "sc in next 2 sts" which is perfectly evident if you are going on instinct but made me pause as I'm a counter through and through! Thanks again for sharing your hard work! I'm a new follower now :).
Thank you Bethany! I just checked that row and you are correct, I just fixed it, thank you!
I just made this set for my daughter and she loves it so much! She couldn’t wait to show her hat and mittens off at preschool. Thank you for sharing this pattern!
You're so welcome! This makes me happy to hear!
Thank you for this awesome pattern! My 5 year old grandson loves Paw patrol. I do have a question though. My grandson has a fairly large head, 21" circumference, and if I stop just before the first color change, it doesn't even come to the top of his ears. Should I just add rows until it is the correct length before the first color change? TIA!
You're welcome! If you need it to be a bit wider I would add another increase row in row 5 (dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next) then switch to the next color. If you need it longer just keep adding rows. Hope this helps!
I am confused with a section of the pattern.....would it be possible for the author to contact me? Preferably on Facebook, bc I hardly check my email, but email can work if necessary... TLCapponi@gmail.com. THANK YOU in advance! My baby boy is so excited to have his Marshall hat and gloves! Daddy is a firefighter, so Marshall is his hero! ❤
I just sent you an e-mail and would be happy to answer any questions! Thank you!
