My 3 year old son wanted to be Marshall for Halloween this year and lucky me I found a Marshall costume in his size second hand for $2! Great! But it was just for the body of the costume…no accessories…not to fear for this crochet mom!
I went to work on making him a hat and some cute paw gloves to match! Now he will have the complete costume, stay warm and be able to wear it after Halloween too!

Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc next 4 sts.
Fasten off 1 earflap. Lay the hat flat with the earflap facing you, turn over and pick up a lp on the opposite side of the hat where the end of the earflap is.
Ch 1, sc next 10 sts and repeat rows 1-6 of the earflap. Don’t fasten off, sc around the entire hat with 2sc in each corner of the earflaps.
Fasten off and weave in end.
Side Braids:
Holding all 3 colors together, cut 6, 40″ strands of yarn (of each color). Fold in half, insert hook in the center of the base of the earflap and grab the center of the yarn strands with your hook.
Pull through and yarn over all straps through the loop. You may need to use a larger hook to get all the yarn strands though the base of the earflap, then I just pull the yarn through with my hand.
Now divide into 3 sections and braid down. At the base you will knot and pull tightly to secure. Trim ends. Repeat on other side.

Hi Laura! Love this pattern. I’m fairly new to crocheting, and I’m a bit confused by the instructions for the ears – mostly the first row. I don’t understand the “sc last 10” part. I chained 12, sc 10, and then the 5 in last stitch. I don’t have 10 more to single crochet after that.
Hi! The 10 sc happen going down the other side of the foundation chain. Hope this helps!
