Create this cute and easy crochet newborn baby hat!

Simple and cute this simple crochet baby hat works up quickly in double crochet and uses front post double crochet and single crochet to create some nice texture.

Abbreviations:

  • ch- chain
  • st- stitch
  • sl st- slip stitch
  • dc- double crochet
  • sc- single crochet
  • fpdc- front post double crochet
  •  

Materials:

  • Medium worsted weight yarn
  • Size H hook, 5.00 mm
  • Blunt needle

The Pattern:

Make magic ring, ch 2

Row 1: Dc 10 times in ring, sl st to join (10).

Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (20).

Row 3: Ch 2, 2 dc in first st, dc in second, repeat around, sl st to join (30).

Row 4: Ch 2, 2 dc in first, dc in next 2 sts, repeat around, sl st to join (40).

Rows 5-8: Ch 2, dc around (40).

Row 9: Ch 2, sc in first st, fpdc in next, repeat around (40).

Row 10: Ch 2, sc in first st, fpdc around previous fpdc, repeat around (40).

Row 11: Change color, Ch 1, sc around, sl st in first st, fasten off, weave in end (40).

    I’m anxious to try these patterns, but you don’t tell us just how much yarn to purchase for the booties or the matching hat. Can you give us that info?

      It is a small amount, less than half a skein, probably around 70 yards or so. Hope this helps.

    Hi just wandering do the chain stitches at the beginning count as a stitch ?

    and how many stitchs are ment to be at each end of the rows ?

      Hi Tia, each row will add 10 stitches so you will have a total of 40 sts before working the hat down. The beginning chains do not count as a stitch.

      Hi, it is a front post double crochet around the front post double crochet you made in the last row to create the texture. Hope this helps!
