Materials:

– Size H, 5.0 mm crochet hook

– Medium worsted weight yarn- I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in “Putty” for the neutral color. A similar yarn I would recommend is Read Heart Super Saver in “Aran”:

I also used Loops & Threads Impeccable in “Falling Leaves” for the contrasting color. I recommend any of Loops and Threads Impeccable variegated yarn for the color contrast.

The color switches quickly and gives a great result!)

– Blunt needle

– Optional: faux fur pom pom

Abbreviations:

st(s)- stitch(es)

sc- single crochet

dc- double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

mc- main color

When changing colors, do not fasten off the previous color. Pick up the new color when you get to the next row.

IMPORTANT:

  • You will be working in the BLO for the rows made with the main color (for the body of the hat).

I’m super excited to make this for my boys, but you might want to consider adding the camel stitch & BLO directions to the pattern directions, not just stating it in the post. I got to row 8 when I decided to read ahead to see when those started and had to start all over since I didn’t realize it was for the whole pattern.

Nice quick pattern. It looks like the child’s pattern differs from the baby and adult on rows 7 and 8. Eight becomes a double crochet and row 7 adds stitches for the remainder of the hat.

I’’m making this hat to donate to chemo patients. It is a very pretty pattern. Do the chain 1 and chain 2 at the beginning of the row count as a stitch? Thank you

Hi Sheila! That is so nice of you! No, the row’s starting ch’s do not count as a stitch.

Add another increasing row (row 8) then continue the pattern as normal 🙂
