Crochet Heart Baby Beanie

Create this adorable baby crochet heart beanie!

So cute for little ones!  

The beanie uses a size H hook and medium worsted weight yarn in 2 colors and follows a simple easy to follow pattern.

The heart appliqué is crocheted separately than sewn on.

The final beanie measure 5.5″ wide and 5 3/4″ tall.

Materials:

  • H hook, 5.00 mm
  • Medium worsted weight yarn in 2 colors such as Red Heart Super Saver:

  • Blunt needle

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

dc- double crochet

sl st- slip stitch

st(s)- stitch(es)

Pattern: 

Magic ring, Ch 2

10 dc in circle sl st to join, ch 2

Row 1: 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (20).

Row 2: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (30).

Row 3: Ch 2, *2 dc, dc next 2 sts,* repeat from *around, sl st to join (40).

Rows 4-5: Ch 2, dc in each st around (40).

6-9: Switch to new color. Ch 2, dc in each st around (40).

Finishing:

On last row, insert your hook in the stitch to the right instead of the left. Continue to sc as usual but you will be working around from right to left instead of left to right. This creates a beautiful edging, also known as the crab stitch. Sl st in last st and fasten off. Weave in all ends.

Heart:

Ch 2

Row 1: 2 sc in next st, ch 1 (2).

Row 2: 2 sc in first st, 2 sc in next, ch 1 (4).

Row 3: 2 sc in first st, sc next 2 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 (6).

Row 4: 2 sc in first st, sc next 4 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 (8).

Row 5: sc across, ch 1 (8).

Row 6: 2 sc in first st, sc next 6 sts, 2 sc in last st, ch 1 (10).

Row 7: sc across, ch 1 (10).

Row 8: sc next 5 sts, ch 1 (5).

Row 9: sc2tog, sc next st, sc2tog, ch 1 (3).

Row 10: sc across (3).

Row 11: sc2tog, sc next st and fasten off.

Pick up a stitch and ch 1 on the other side of the heart at row 7. Sc next 4 sts and ch 1.

Next row: sc2tog, sc next st, sc2tog, ch 1 (3).

Next row: sc across (3).

Next row: sc2tog, sc next st. Continue to sc around the heart with 2 sc at the bottom point. Fasten off.

With other color pick up a stitch and sl at around the heart in-between the sc round you just made. Fasten off leaving a long tail and sew on hat. Weave in and out around the sl stitches with the bottom point of the heart at the top of row 1. Fasten off and weave in ends.
