– Medium worsted weight yarn in green, white and a small amount of black and orange
– Size I, 5.5 mm crochet hook
– Blunt needle
Abbreviations:
ch- chain
st(s)- stitch(es)
sc- single crochet
dc- double crochet
sl st- slip stitch
Body of hat:
Baby size:
Make a magic circle, ch 2.
10 dc in ring, sl st to join.
Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 4-10: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Toddler size:
Make a magic circle, ch 2.
10 dc in ring, sl st to join.
Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 5-10: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Adult size:
Make a magic circle, ch 2.
10 dc in ring, sl st to join.
Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
Row 5: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.
6-11: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join.
Teeth:
With the seam in the back pick up a loop anywhere on the front edge of the hat.
Row 1: Sc 4 sts across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, twice.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc 2 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, fasten off. Weave in end.
Count 6 sts over (for baby) 8 sts over (for toddler) and 10 sts over (for adult) and repeat the sequence for the other tooth.
Eye:
With white yarn make a magic ring and ch 2.
Dc 12 into center of ring. Ch 2 and 2dc in each st around, sl to to join. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on hat.
Pupil:
Make a magic ring and ch 1.
Sc 5 sts into center of ring, sl st to join and fasten off leaving a long tail to sew onto the white circle. Sew on pupil then sew on the entire eyeball right above the last row. Weave in end.
Hair:
Hair on top of the hat:
Cut 4, 6″ strands of yarn. Put hook through the top of the hat, pull through the middle of the strands. Yarn over and pull all strands through. Trim to about 1″ high.
Hair on both sides of the hat:
Cut 4, 6″ strands of yarn. Put hook through the side of the hat on the second row, pull through the middle of the strands. Yarn over and pull all strands through. Trim to about 1″ high. Repeat on other side.
