Have your little pup “Ready for Action!” with this cute crochet Chase Paw Patrol hat and mitten set! After making my son a Marshall set last Halloween I decided it would only be fair to write up the pattern for each character!

My son loves all the sets and I’m sure your Paw Patrol fan will too!

Below is the free pattern.

Hat pattern (I hook):

With color A make magic circle, ch 1.

10 dc in ring, sl st to join (10).

Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join (20).

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (30).

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (40).

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join (50).

For child and older child/adult size add another increasing row here then continue the pattern. This will count as row 5, then continue with row 6-12 of the pattern. For toddler size continue with row 5.

Child size row: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, ending with dc in last 3 sts, sl st to join.

Older child/adult size row: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 5-9: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join.

**Switch to color B**

Row 10: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join.

**Switch to color C**

Row 11-12:  Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, dc in each st around, sl st to join. Fasten off.

Ear Flaps (I hook): (With color C):

Pick up a lp 8 sts over from the back seam. Draw up a lp and ch 1. Sc next 10 sts, turn.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 6 sts, sc2tog, turn (8).

Row 2: Ch 1, sc next 8 sts, turn (8).

Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 4 sts, sc2tog, turn (6).

Row 4: Ch 1, sc next 6 sts (6).

Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog, turn (4).

Row 6: Ch 1, sc next 4 sts (4).

Fasten off 1 earflap. Lay the hat flat with the earflap facing you, turn over and pick up a lp on the opposite side of the hat where the end of the earflap is.

Ch 1, sc next 10 sts and repeat rows 1-6 of the earflap.

Don’t fasten off, sc around the entire hat with 2sc in each corner of the earflaps.

Fasten off and weave in end.

Weave in all ends on the inside of the hat.

Side Braids:

Holding all 3 colors together, cut 6, 40″ strands of yarn. Fold in half, insert hook in the center of the base of the earflap and grab the center of the yarn strands with your hook.

Pull through and yarn over all straps through the loop. You may need to use a larger hook to get all the yarn strands though the base of the earflap, then I just pull the yarn through with my hand.

Now divide into 3 sections and braid down.

At the base you will knot and pull tightly to secure. Trim ends. Repeat on other side.

For Badge (I hook): (with dark gray yarn):

CH 11

Row 1: Sc next 10 sts

Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 6 sts, sc2tog.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc across.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 4 sts, sc2tog.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc across.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog.

Row 7: Ch 1, sc across.

Row 8: Ch 1, sc2tog, twice.

Row 9: Ch 1, sc 2 sts.

Row 10: Ch 1, sc2tog.

Ch 1 and sc around with 2 sc in each corner. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing on.

For Paw pads (with light gray yarn) (F hook):

Small pads (Make 3): Magic circle, ch 1, 5 sc in circle, sl st to join and fasten off leaving long enough tail to sew on.

Large pad: Magic circle, ch 2, 10 dc in circle, sl st to join and fasten off leaving long enough tail to sew on.

Sew paws on badge (the triangle tip faces down) and sew badge on hat.

Ears (make 2 sets):

With light pink yarn, ch 7

Row 1: Sc in each row across (6).

Row 2: Sc2tog, sc next 2 sts, sc2tog (4).

Row 3: Sc in each st across (4).

Row 4: Sc2tog twice (2).

Row 5: Sc in each st (2).

Row 6: Sc2tog, ch 1.

Sc evenly around with 2 sc in each corner. Fasten off, weave in end.

Repeat sequence again with dark brown yarn. After you sc evenly around, do not fasten off.

Lay the pink triangle on top of the brown triangle and sc through the back loop of the pink and back loop of the brown together around.

Sl st and fasten off. Weave in end. Cut a long piece of dark brown yarn and sew on hat.

  • So confused on the colors listed for the chase hat. One list says blue, black, yellow, dark gray and light gray, then on down it has brown and white listed?? Where is there brown and white on this hat??

    • Sorry the colors got mixed up from one of the other Paw Patrol hats, I fixed it, thanks for letting me know.

  • Hi,

I'm not sure if it's me, but I'm very confused by the earflaps. First, should there be a turn after the initial 10 sc? Also, should it be 6 stitches, then 8, then 4, 6, 2, 4? I would have thought they'd be decreasing to 2. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

    • Yes there is a turn after the initial 10 single crochets. They would decrease by 2 if you decreased on every row but since there is a row of sc's, it decreases by 2 every other row. I added the end row number count if that helps. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions :)

  • Thank you for sharing these patterns I just love them. They are so easy to make but I added eyes to mine instead of the paw patrol sign!

  • hi its me again, I forgot to finish it, but I dont understand this part.
Pick up a lp 8 sts over from the back seam. Draw up a lp and ch 1...I understand the rest of it
    thanks marie

    • That is where you start the sc's for the earflap portion. Let me know if you have any other questions :)

  • What approx size does the toddler hat end up being? I am trying to make hats for my 2 year old twin nephews and am unsure if I should do the toddler size or up to the child size?

    • It depends on their head circumference. The toddler size fits a 17-19" head circumference and the child size a 19"-21" head circumference.
