Crochet Cross Body Bag

Crochet Cross Body Bag

Create this gorgeous crochet puff zip cross body bag! Works up quickly and I just love the end result!

Directions are make with a zipper but you could also chain the stitches in the beginning and follow the pattern then add a button at the end and chains at the middle top of the bag for the enclosure.

I used D hooks on the sides (can find at any craft store) and added detachable purse strap (I find mine at thrift stores). Such a cute purse!

The final bag measures 11″ X 11″.

Materials:

– Hook size E and G
– 100% cotton yarn, I used Lilly’s Sugar N’ Cream (2, 4oz ball)
– Awl or sharp needle to poke holes in zipper

– 12” zipper

– Threading floss of similar color as yarn
– Scissors
– Blunt needle, sewing needle
– Button
– D rings

– Attachable purse strap

Abbreviations/Special Stitch:

ch = chain (s)

st(s) = stitches

sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

dc = double crochet

hdc = half double crochet

tr= treble crochet

Puff:

• Yarn over, insert hk in st and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook again pulling up another loop, yarn over and insert hk one more time and pull up a loop. Now yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.

Body:

Poke 38 sts along each side of the zipper. With E hook draw up a lp and sc down the row. I find it easier to poke a hole and sc immediately as I go so I can see the hole better. Don’t crochet too tightly or the zipper will look wavy and wonky. I also like to go over it with a iron to make sure it’s laying flat. You will work each side separately then sew together at the end. Switch to size G hook.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (38).

Row 2: Ch 3, Ch 3, *puff in first st, ch 1, puff in the same st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts*, repeat from * across, turn (38).

Row 3: Ch 3, *puff in-between the 2 puffs from the previous row, ch 1, puff again in same space, ch 1,* repeat from * across, turn, ending with a puff in the ch 3 space (38).
Repeat row 3 for 18 more rows. Fasten off.
Repeat the same pattern down the other side of the bag.

Turn bag inside out and sc around the outter edge of the bag. Leave the zipper unzipped a little so it will be easier to turn right side out. Make sure to get right up under either end of the zipper. Fasten off. Turn bag right side out.

With threading floss fold over the extra flaps at the end of the zipper and sew them down on each side. Fasten off on the inside of the bag.

Flower and Petals:

Flower:

Ch 5, sl st into first ch to form ring, ch 1.
Sc 12 times into the ring (change color if desired).
Ch 4, puff in first st, puff in next st, ch 2, sl st in next st, ch 3. *puff in same st, puff in next st, ch 2, sl st in next st, ch 3,* repeat from * around. Sl st in first st to join flower, fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on.

Petals:

Ch 8
Sc in first, hdc in next, dc in next, treb in next, dc in next, hdc in next, sc in last, repeat again down the other side, sl st in first st and fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on.
Sew petals, flower and button onto the front of the bag.

D Rings/Strap:

Sew D rings at the top of either end of the bag right below the zipper. Thread needle with yarn and sew many times around the hook so it is secure.

Fasten off on the inside of the bag. Attach strap.

Weave in end and any other loose ends on the bag. Line if desired.

Great job!

Enjoy your new bag!
