Materials:
– Hook size E and G
– 100% cotton yarn, I used 100% mercerized cotton yarn (1, 4oz ball)
– Awl or sharp needle to poke holes in zipper
– 6” zipper
– Threading floss of similar color as yarn
– Scissors
– Blunt needle, sewing needle
– Button
Abbreviations:
ch = chain (s)
st(s) = stitches
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
hdc = half double crochet
tr= treble crochet
Special Stitches:
Puff: Yarn over, insert hk in st and pull up a loop, yarn over and insert hook again pulling up another loop, yarn over and insert hk one more time and pull up a loop. Now yarn over and pull through all loops on the hook.
Poke 22 sts along each side of the zipper. I find it easier to poke the holes one at a time then do the stitch in it so I can see the holes better. Don’t crochet too tightly or the zipper will look wavy and wonky. I also like to iron over it to make sure it is laying flat. With E hook draw up a lp and sc down the row. You will work each side separately then sew together at the end. Switch to size G hook.
Body:
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn (22).
Row 2: Ch 3, Ch 3, *puff in first st, ch 1, puff in the same st, ch 1, skip next 2 sts*, repeat from * across, turn (22).
Row 3: Ch 3, *puff in-between the 2 puffs from the previous row, ch 1, puff again in same space, ch 1,* repeat from * across, turn, puff in end at ch 3 space (22).
Repeat row 3 for 7 more rows. Fasten off.
Repeat the same pattern down the other side of the bag.
Turn bag inside out and sc around the outter edge of the bag. Leave the zipper unzipped a little so it will be easier to turn right side out. Make sure to get right up under either end of the zipper. Fasten off. Turn bag right side out.
With threading floss fold over the extra flaps at the end of the zipper and sew them down on each side. Fasten off on the inside of the bag.
Flower:
Ch 5, sl st into first ch, ch 1 to form ring.
Sc 12 times into the ring.
Ch 3, puff in first st, ch 1, puff in next st, ch 2, sl st in next st. *In the same st ch 3, puff in same st ch 1, puff in next st ch 2, sl st in next st,* repeat from * around. Sl st in last st to first st to join the flower. Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on.
Petals:
Ch 8
Sc in first, hdc in next, dc in next, treb in next, dc in next, hdc in next, sc in last, repeat again down the other side, sl st in first st and fasten off leaving a long tail to sew on.
Sew petals, flower and button onto the front of the bag.
