Surface Crochet Headband
Playing with colors and inspiration led me to create a colorful surface crochet headband, perfect for any chilly day!
All you need to know is how to change colors, increase/decrease and basic surface slip stitch crochet (if your not familiar with surface slip crochet, there are tons of YouTube videos on this!). It is easy to learn and a fun stitch to use!
The head wrap can be worn with the button facing the back or front, it’s up to you. The fingerless gloves can also be worn on either side. Very cute set!

Materials:
– Any medium worsted yarn in 3 colors
– Hook size I
– Blunt needle
– Large button approx. 1.25”
Abbreviations:
ch = chain (s)
st(s) = stitches
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
sc2tog = single crochet 2 together
Pattern:
Ch 6.
Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from the hk and each st across, turn (5).
Row 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in first, dc next 3, 2 dc in last, turn (7).
Row 3: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (7).
Row 4: Change to color A, ch 2, 2 dc in first, dc next 5, 2 dc in last, turn (9).
Row 5: Change to color B, ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (9).
Row 6: Change to main color ch 2, 2 dc in first, dc next 7, 2 dc in last, turn (11).
Row 7: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (11).
Row 8: Ch 2, 2 dc in first, dc next 9, 2 dc in last, turn (13).
Row 9: Change to color A, ch 2, dc in each st across (13).
Change to color B for next row. Repeat rows 9 until piece measures 17” from end, changing to the main color for the next 3 rows, then color A for the next row and color B for the next row. Continue with this color change sequence for the rest of the headband.
Next row: Ch 2, dc in st across (13).
Next row: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc next 9, dc2tog, turn (11).
Next row: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (11).
Next row: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc next 7, dc 2 tog, turn (9).
Next row: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (9).
Next row: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc next 5, dc2tog (7).
Next row: Ch 2, dc in each st across, turn (7).
Next row: Ch 2, dc2tog, dc in next 3, dc2tog (5).
Next row: Ch 2, dc in each st across (5).
Next row: Ch 5, skip 4 sts and sl st in 5th st at end to form button hole.
Continue to sc in each st on the left and right vertical sides, sc in every other st on the long horizontal sides. 3 sc in each corner. Sc 5 times in button hole. Sl st in last st and fasten off. Weave in ends.
Sl st rows: Evenly space 5 rows (space rows with 2 dc sts in between each row).
Start a sl st at the first color row and loosely sl st yarn drawing up a lp from the back of the head wrap and sl stitching in a straight line down to the first color row at the other end. Fasten off and weave in tails with a blunt needle.

Sew on your button.
