Crochet Bunny Hat

Cute and simple this crochet bunny hat is quick to work up and very cute! The pink part of the ears are made with chunky yarn to stiffen the ears so they can stand up on their own.

The hat is worked up with double crochet in a way that will create a straight seam and not a slanted one. The bottom is worked with 2 rows of front post double crochet to create a textured look.

The face is made with all yarn, no buttons, to keep your little one safe.

Materials:

Size I hook

  • Medium worsted weight yarn (hat and ear trim)
  • Chunky yarn (for ears)
  • small amount pink yarn (nose)
  • small amount black yarn (eyes)
  • small amount white yarn (cheeks)
  • Blunt needle

Hat (newborn)

Magic circle

10 dc in ring, sl st to join.

Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Rows 4-7: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and in each st around, sl st to join.

**You may dc the last 2 rows of the hat or if you would like added texture continue with the fpdc for rows 8 and 9)**

Row 8: Ch 2, fpdc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next st, fpdc in next,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 9: Ch 2, *fpdc around previous fpdc, dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in end.

Hat (Toddler)

Magic circle

10 dc in ring, sl st to join.

Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and 2 dc in each st around, sl st to join.

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 5: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Rows 6-10: Ch 2, dc in same ch 2 st and in each st around, sl st to join.

**You may dc the last 2 rows of the hat or if you would like added texture continue with the fpdc for rows 11 and 12)**

Row 11: Ch 2, fpdc in same ch 2 st, *dc in next st, fpdc in next,* repeat from * around, sl st to join.

Row 12: Ch 2, *fpdc around previous fpdc, dc in next st,* repeat from * around, sl st to join. Fasten off and weave in end.

Ears:

With chunky yarn ch 10

– Sc in first, dc next 7 sts, sc in last 2 sts. Now go down the other side of the ear. Sc in next 2 sts, dc next 7 sts, sc in last st, sl st to join and fasten off.

Pull up a loop (with gray yarn) in the back stitch only where you fastened off and ch 1. Sc in blo around. sl st to join and fasten off. Sew on ears.

Nose:

Ch 3, sc next 2 sts, ch 1, turn, sc 2 tog, sl st in end and fasten off. Sew nose on. With blunt needle thread a piece of yarn and sew on a double line below nose, between the cheeks.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cheeks:

Magic circle, ch 2, 9 dc in ring, sl st to join and fasten off. Sew checks on.

Eyes:

Magic circle, ch 1, sc 5 in ring, sl st to join and fasten off. Sew on eyes.

 

Weave in all remaining ends.
