Simply Elegant Crochet Baby Blanket

Beautiful and attractive, this simple elegant crochet baby blanket works up quickly with a great result! The pattern creates a gorgeous eye catching texture that works up quickly. Very pretty for your little one or as a gift!

  • H hook, 5.00 mm
  • Medium worsted weight yarn
    • Baby size: I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in “pale gray” and “butterscotch caramel.” 1.5 skeins of each color, 285 yrds each skein (about 850 yrds total).
      • Toddler size: I used Yarnspirations Bernat Pop in “Foggy notion”, 5 skeins total, 280 yrds each skein (about 1400 yrds total).

  • Blunt needle


ch- chain

hk- hook

sk- skip

sp- space

sc- single crochet

dc- double crochet


Ch 102 (for baby size, 25″ X 25″), ch 126 for toddler size (40 X 40″)

Row 1: Sc in each st across to end.

Row 2: Ch 2, *sk next st, dc in next 3 sts, long dc in skipped st* repeat from *, ending with a dc in last st.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc from the last row.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 to form pattern until piece measures 25″ for baby size and 40″ for toddler size.


Sc evenly around the entire blanket with 3 sc in each corner. Fasten off and weave in end.

  1. I downloaded your Traverse Bay Crochet baby blanket. I do not know what a long double crochet stitch is in row 3. Can you explain that to me.

    • Hi Rosalie! The long double crochet stitch is a regular dc that is done into the stitch that you skipped. If you are having any trouble I did upload a video on my blog post showing how to do row 3. Let me know if you have any other questions, thanks!
