Pom Pom crochet Mandala cake neck warmer

This beautiful neck warmer cowl is made with a Mandela yarn cake. Light weight and changes the color for you creating a really cute and warm cowl that you can wear all day without it becoming too hot. There is a lot of texture here to keep it looking interesting following this simple pattern. The pom pom trim is what I really love about it adding a girly feel to the whole piece. Materials:

  • Light weight size 3 yarn (I used Mandala cake yarn), about 150 yards
  • size H hook
  • blunt needle 
  • Large button, about 1 1/4″

Note:

You can make this with any light weight yarn and change the color at the start of any row to create the color affect. 

Abbreviations:

ch- chain

sc- single crochet

dc- double crochet

st(s)- stitch(es)

sl st- slip stitch

lp- loop

sk- skip

Special Stitches:

Puff stitch: yarn over, go through stitch and pull up a lp, yarn over, go through same stitch again and pull up a lp, repeat 4 more times (6 total) then pull yarn through all loops on hook.

Pom stitch: yarn over, go through stitch and pull up a lp, yarn over, go through same stitch again and pull up a lp, repeat 2 more times (4 total) then pull yarn through all loops on hook.

Pattern:

Ch 103

Row 1: Dc in second ch from the hook and each ch around, sl st to join (102).

***you will be working in the round***

Row 2: Ch 2, puff in first st, ch 1, sk next st, *puff in next st, ch 1, sk next st*, repeat from * around, ending with ch 1, sl st to join (102).

Row 3: Ch 2, dc in each st around (one between puff and one on top of puff), sl st to join (102).

Row 4: Ch 2, dc in first st, ch 1, sk next st, *dc in next st, ch 1*, repeat from * around, sl st to join (102).

Row 5: Ch 2, *dc in space, dc in next st*, repeat from * around, sl st to join (102).

Row 6: Repeat row 2.

Row 7: Repeat row 3.

Row 8: Repeat row 4.

Row 9: Repeat row 5.

Row 10: Repeat row 2.

Row 11: Repeat row 3.

Row 12: Repeat row 4.

Row 13: 2 sc in each space around (102). Turn piece around.

Row 14: With wrong side facing you, *ch 3, pom into the first ch, ch 1, sl st in same ch space, sc in next*, repeat from * around (102).

Place around neck and fold over the front to your liking. Place button over top and sew on. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
